For fun I made a family for my big house. They are (loosely) based on a family that lived next door to us many years ago. I've added one more kiddo (oops!)
Meet dad, Terry Moore - Family oriented, neat, handy, born salesman and friendly. LTW - Jack of all trades.

This is mom, Lynne - Family oriented, natural cook, neat, green thumb, charismatic - LTW - surrounded by family.

The teenage daughter, Kianna - Bookworm, neat, animal lover.

The Twins, Kerry, - Neat, Artistic, Computer Whiz (nerdy kid), Kelly - Good sense of humor, excitable.

Little Sister, Kelsey - Bookworm, Neat.

Moore family antics. I've take a page from your book, Nindigo. It was fun. I don't know if I'll keep them but if I do, they'll be completely high free will because there are just too many of them to manage.
I think I might have to move the house to a larger lot though since there's no room for the kids to play and for mom to garden.
Kelly performing. I missed mom clapping and bowing. He just showed up in the costume.

Korry found a toy. I don't know where it came from. I couldn't get the camera close enough to him.

Kerry, the nerdy kid doing nerdy kid stuff.

Kianna and Kelsey - Sisterly lessons. Kianna teaching Kelsey how to practice teenage drama and Kelsey taking it all in.

And dad thinking this isn't going to go well.

I'm sure glad someone fed the baby.

Except for mom. Seems she and dad need to have a "relationship" before they can sleep in the same bed. I think it's a little late for that. Those kids weren't adopted!

They all seem to have settled well. And you're right - one becomes aware that plenty outdoor space is a must for family play. Adults can and will also use swings and sandboxes to get their fun up. And gardening requires space too, of course.
Here's a cheat for mom and dad. Make sure you have the Cheats module for Master Controller (you also need MC itself) installed:
- Click on either mom or dad
- Click 'Nraas' in the pie menu
- Click 'Intermediate'
- Click 'Relationship by Category' ('Relationship by Value' just makes them friends or enemies)
- Click 'Household' and select the mom or dad depending on which Sim you clicked on
- Click the bottom spouse (wife or husband) option at the bottom of the list
- Ta-da, they are now married and can share a bed
I hope you're having good fun just observing and learning - I know I do!
The Generations pack has some really good activities for child-aged kids in particular. Admittedly, I don't think all the teen pranking and prom feature is nearly as cute. That toy you couldn't identify is the dreaded imaginary doll which can come alive later, if given a a special potion made with the chemistry table. These dolls, however, tend to cause various script errors, if they do come alive.
Thank you for the thread! I'm ecstatic to see another story ;D

Thanks for that, Nindigo. I had forgotten about that. With that many kids, who has time for romance. :D
For reference, my youngest brother was called "Oops". I'm the eldest of 5 and I was 13 when he was born. It wasn't until years later that I realized why he was called "Oops". :D

I got mom and dad hitched so we're all good there but we definitely need more bathrooms since almost everyone is sick from eating bad hotdogs. :-\
Trouble brewing here.
Little brother in big sister's room isn't going to end well. (I was the big sister with 2 little brothers).
Disregard the random table under the desk. ???

Mom and dad cleaning up. Mom because she had an accident because the bathrooms were full and dad cleaning up after an incident kneeling in front of the porcelain throne.

Uh-oh. Looks like dad might need to kneel before the porcelain throne again but he's going to be out of luck.

Lol! When they are past the effects of the burnt hotdogs, two or three bathrooms should be adequate. The school aged kids will be able to take care of bladder and hunger needs around noon while they're at school. Same with working adults. Well, at work for their part.
Their home looks super cozy, might I add! :)

Thank you. I'm happy with how it turned out. I am studying it to see where I can fit even a half bath downstairs. When I was renovating the house from the original, I hadn't planned on that large a family but as I was adding cute furniture I realized I needed people to occupy the beds. I guess I really didn't need the twins (triplets actually if you count Kelsey) just because I had beds to fill, but I have twin grandsons so they're a bit special. Kerry (nerdy kid) looks just like my grandsons used to look. Now that they're teenagers, they're a bit more sophisticated and not so nerdy looking. :D

Update on the house. - New location on the hill overlooking the river.
Large lot, 60 x 60. I still need to plan the play/gardening areas.

That's quite a big home. Looks good though :)
-
It's a huge house. :(. I'm going to have to put my sims to work just to pay the bills. I gave him the LTW of Jack of all trades and his first employment is in law enforcement.
-
Reaching level 5 of any basegame career should pretty much be a piece of cake. You could settle for a small house and just enjoy the extra outdoor space or design some botanical wonder.
-
I too was going to mention you could create a smaller house for the family. Make a nursery on the main floor for any toddlers they have or may have. Easier to take care of toddlers that way. By default they can't go upstairs by themselves.
Then if you still want them to have a large 60x60 lot you'll have more room to make outdoor spaces.
-
It's taken me the better part of 2 days. I'm not changing it now. :D
Besides, with 5 kids, they need a big house. They have enough trouble in a big house as it is. :o
