Title: House Build Challenge #4 ~ 1926 Tudor Revival
Post by: MrsFlynn on April 01, 2022, 02:52:15 PM
I spotted another house build request (here (https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=1818.msg515707#msg515707)) at Carl's. Lapaige and I decided to make a challenge of sorts out of it. More so to share ideas between us. Plus we enjoy sharing our building journeys. lol

The requestor doesn't mine it being an unfurnished home. Only request they had was to have Tudor colors - white walls with the stone and the wood on the windows look. ✽ Requestor has these expansions - Ambitions, Late Night, Generations, Pets and Seasons.  -- No Store Content.

It sounds like the home will be placed on a 60x60 lot (15 Summer Hill Court) in Sunset Valley.

I am sharing the photos of the house and floorplans here in this post for quicker reference. Click image to see larger view. While viewing image, click the box with the arrow going to the right to see full-size view.

I will be trying to build this on a smaller lot than a 60x60, maybe a 40x30 lot. In hopes that I can then leave room for whatever out-buildings or whatnot the requestor might want to add.

I will most likely use Builder's Island to build the home, but will be taking the final screenshots of the home in Sunset Valley.

I'll also be sharing progress screenshots as I create the home.

I tried building on a 40x30 lot -

I like how the shape of the home turned out, but it's missing a main floor bathroom or two and I don't like that... so I'll be trying something different.

I loaded up Sunset Valley and tried the "shell" I saved to the library on the 60x60 lot - 15 Summer Hill Court and didn't like it as even with flattening the lot it still looked a little bumpy. Not sure how to explain.

I decided to fully rebuild.  I'm happy that I did as it came out more like what I was hoping I could get the main floor to look like.

I tried to keep 12 grid spaces on both left and right sides of the house and was able to accomplish that. There's 8 grid spaces in front and 26 or 27 grid spaces in the back of the house. So tons of space for any outdoor buildings, pool, playground and/pr anything you'd like to add.

The house doesn't seem to have that many bedrooms compared to the 6 or 7 bedrooms the real life house has. I'm seeing a possible 5 bedrooms in my build. 4 upstairs and one downstairs.

Hmm... may need to ask to ask requestor if they mind me adding a basement. lol

-- Looking over the 2nd floor floorplan and then looking at my build I might be able to add two more smallish bedrooms.

Gonna use this as a foundation for a new Alvi house.  :o

Main floor.

It's a start. I've placed it in my "posh" area on the hill in RV on a 60x60 lot.

I know you like wide stairs, MrsFlynn, but in this case the plan has stairs with a landing and unfortunately it only comes in single wide.

The stairs are CC from here.

Yep, my computer nearly crashed last night as I was working on the house too. I was trying to figure out what I want to do for the external wall covering.  Luckily I had saved just before it happened. I also have a copy of the house just in case. lol

I saw these screenshots in my screenshots folder and had to share.  It shows some of how I try to figure out what I want to do with the wall coverings. :)

Looking good. I'm going to do something different with the front door. I don't like that roof because it isn't allowing for the little porch from the second floor. I fiddled with it for a long time and couldn't make it work.

Thank you!!  I'm liking the house so far, for the most part. There's a few things I'd change though. I might try working with my ideas in a little while.

Are you talking about the roofline above the front door with the skylight type thing. Sims 3 doesn't do that, that I'm aware of. I don't think there's custom content that does that.

Ohhh!! You can add a basement if you'd like!! Requestor said yes to a basement. Whoot!! :)

Here's the house so far....

It's actually not a skylight. It looks to me like a door that goes out to a little porch.
I don't like the entry at all. It's not nearly grand enough for a house like that.

I'll work on something tomorrow. I'm late getting my dinner started and I'm hungry!!

Sounds like a good plan!!  I'm working on somewhat of a remodel of the house now. *Blush*  Working with an idea I had while I was just finishing up my first build. lol

I really like the fireplace over by the front door, so that's part of the remodel is adding a fireplace to what's suppose to be the dinning room. And I wanted to see about adding a side porch/deck to the right side of the house.

There are 3 fireplaces downstairs in the actual house (one in the dining room) and one up. It's a very odd layout. Some huge bathrooms and then tiny ones. I suspect that the primary suite over the garage is a recent add on. I don't think that's original to the build.

There is actually a porch on the dining room side. I hope I've left room. LOL

I only added two fireplaces.  It looks like there's one in the den, from what it looks like in the floorplan. I left that one out. I really liked the idea of having one in the livingroom and the diningroom.

I left room for the porch and deck.... but forgot to add it. *Blush* So I'm jumping in game to add that. :)

Then I'll get photos to share.

Alrighty, I am really pleased with how this house turned out!! Definitely looks better with the two grand fireplaces and deck with sunroom. :)

Now to get it ready to share!! :)

I've posted the house. I named it Crowley (https://jadekitten.net/mfhot/index.php?topic=397.msg4649#msg4649).

I did see what you called the little deck out above the front door when I went back to the realtor site to view the photos again. It's been a long -long- time since I've seen something like that in a house.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!! :)

You are obviously way ahead of me. Not a lot of progress because, as usual, I've been obsessing over details. I've changed the front entry and I'm still not happy with it. I'm quitting for now because but may get back to it later.

As I was finishing up building the house last night I got some inspiration for some landscaping. Not a whole lot, but it does make it look a bit nicer. :)

I hid the garbage can behind the tall bush to the left side of the front door. lol

I always put my garbage cans around the back by the kitchen door or near the garage.
Title: Re: House Build Challenge #4 ~ 1926 Tudor Revival
Post by: MrsFlynn on April 03, 2022, 09:55:01 PM
I used to do that and still do sometimes. But have found with a few or so lots when I try placing the lots that have the trash cans behind the house or by the door closets to kitchen it rotates the lot to where the trash can faces the front of the lot.

That annoys me. Since that's been happening more I've been leaving the trash can and mail box near each other but the trash can hidden.

More testing is needed, as it only happens every now and again not all the time.

I've never run into that but it makes sense. In that case, once you have your lot where you want it, then move the garbage can to the back.

The Tuxedo -

I took some liberties with the front of the house because I felt the entry was very understated. I used my favorite CC windows throughout except for the breakfast room.

Thank you for offering the challenge, MrsFlynn. I had fun with it.
