Title: Daycare Profession Challenge and Play-Through
Post by: Nindigo on January 20, 2023, 10:52:16 AM
Hey guys,

I was wondering if any of you would be up to playing through this profession that came with the Generations expansion pack - with a Sim of choice?

There is a help page over at Carl's Sims 3 Guides: Here (https://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/generations/daycare.php) an article on Sims Wiki (https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Daycare) and another Daycare Guide Here (https://www.gameyum.com/sims-3/120110-run-a-daycare-business-in-the-sims-3/) From Gameyum.

I don't believe I ever finished this profession. It could perhaps be a fun way to get back into the game if you've been away like me.

Title: Daycare Career - Tips, Notes and Info.
Post by: MrsFlynn on January 20, 2023, 11:22:23 AM
   ----

   ~ Troubleshooting:

On the clock, but no toddlers? Possible Fixes -

  1. Reset Town/Evict or Move Household and move 'em back in.
  2. Quit and join profession again.
  3. Add more families with toddlers into town. (This may not fully fix the issue.)

-- If having problems: save family and their house separately via Edit Town. Then evict family, bulldoze home, replace home and replace family.

   ----

   ~ Tips:

✽ Tip:  With Seasons installed or enabled, you will get holidays each Thurs or possibly Fri. If you don't want that. Try uninstalling/disabling this pack before starting the career.

✽ Tip:  When starting off, having just a few basic kids toys should be enough. For example: Building Blocks table; Toy Box; and Peg Box. Later getting an expensive tv and the playpen helps when you have 3 or more toddlers. ;)  Keep everyone entertained, socialized, fed, clean and in a good/great mood. You'll get a great report. lol

✽ Tip:  Toddlers will use a potty chair if they are potty trained, but even if they use it, it will not impact the "daycare" diaper status. They seem to be two separate needs.

✽ Tip:  Feed toddlers a bottle on the floor instead of using a highchair. Feeding on the floor helps caring for them much more fluid and less time consuming. And more importantly, it means less routing for all the Sims involved to take into consideration.

✽ Tip:  School aged kids also simply arrive, do their homework, and maybe play with the dollhouse before leaving. They are only at the daycare for a couple of hours during the day.

✽ Tip:  If you do decide to use the Work Fridays Mod (https://modthesims.info/d/618708) and decide to delete it. Don't forget to delete the cache files after deleting the mod and use Nraas MasterController (https://www.nraas.net/community/MasterController) to Reset Everything to reset the career. So the game knows you took out the mod. Otherwise, you might get toddlers on Friday, when your expecting a day off. lol

✽ Tip:  You (your main daycare provider Sim) can't interact with parents/caretakers of the toddlers/kids when they're getting dropped off or picked up. Try befriending them on your days off or after work. If you're wanting to gain friendship with the parents/caretaker, from what I have learned. It seems like with this career friendship with parents/caretaker doesn't matter.

Toddlers Can Sit on Sims' Laps  - https://modthesims.info/d/669909

   ----

   ~ Information:

If there is suppose to be 5 toddlers and the game only sends 4. Or a toddler gets deleted for whatever reason, the daycare system replaces the kid the very next work day.  If no extra kids in the town, the game will create a new family.

Daycare Career levels, according to SimsWiki: https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Daycare

Lv.1 - Amateur Babysitter = 2 toddlers
Lv.2 - Cool Caregiver = 3 toddlers
Lv.3 - Daycare Dynamo = 4 toddlers - Daycare worker now has Tell a Tale option.
Lv.4 - Good Guardian = 5 kids* - Mix of toddlers and kids.
Lv.5 - Daycare Specialist = 6 Kids* - Mix of toddlers and kids.

 * This could include a mix of toddlers and kids and will include weekend work.

We can just play until/if it gets bugged beyond fun :)

I'm in the process of building a suitable house without stairs like the one shown in Carl's guide. I'll post pics once I'm satisfied with it.

I am in the process of setting up a house that's I've just built. Then I have to create a new sim. We'll see how it goes. :)

Hmmm... Ears Perk-up!!

I have no clue about this career. I do know that it's majorly buggy, but I'm willing to give it a try.

Did they start with a small house and build larger as they went along?  Or can we go with something that we've already built, that has a fair amount of room? I tried to look at the house in the guide, but there was a lot going on.

I'm thinking maybe this (https://jadekitten.net/mfhot/index.php?topic=197.msg1910#msg1910) house would work?
Finley ~ 30x30 - 4bds/3Ba  Does have a basement, but no foundation.

** Added I went with the house above and added a few Store items like the Baby Swing, Playpen and Tomfoolery Toybox and added to the Finley house page above. Finley-DCH2.zip (https://jadekitten.net/mfhot/index.php?topic=197.msg1910#msg1910)  I also found my Daycare Sims and they are added to Finley's page as well. :)

I'm just using the house that I've just finished. If it doesn't work, I'll build something specific. I don't have a whole lot of room in this particular house but it will do to start with.
Yours looks like it has lots of room.

I have to quit in a few mins. I have something else I need to do.

Okay, cool!! :)

I figured Finley would work best, because it's got a fairly big main floor.

This was originally my first choice.

Taylor-B2 (https://jadekitten.net/mfhot/index.php?topic=449.msg5348#msg5348) ~ 30x30 - 4Bds/4Ba - also has basement, but no foundation and half floor above. 2 bedrooms on the main floor, with 2 more in the basement.  Fenced yard with green house. lol

Cause the gardening addiction is real!! Yo!! lol

The guide makes a point of using a house with plenty of entry space for when parent Sims arrive.

The guide also says that potty chairs are not needed, but I seem to recall having taught toddlers to use it.

Anyway, I advice reading the guide before starting out in order to have everything in place.

Also, we can try the challenge with no money cheats if that is of interest. Or not. This is about the profession.

Here is the house I will be using. The layout at least. I might change the colors when I procrastinate.

And the Sim I will be using. Her name is Jasmine Alvi. She is a granddaughter of Agnes Crumplebottom from Sunset Valley and Musa Alvi (who is a VJxMiraj engineered offspring)

Post by: MrsFlynn on January 21, 2023, 04:33:04 PM
I am using a house I built called Finley, as shown earlier in the thread and a Sim named Vanessa.

Playing in Sunset Valley, of course. lol

This is my first time playing this profession, so it's going to be a little bumpy.

Had what I thought was a rough start at first, but got it figured out. Got Daycare Profession offered on Day 2 - Tues. Week 1. Daycare - Amateur Babysitter. You may not get toddlers dropped off right away. Look for them to come the day after you accept the profession at around 9am. Be ready for stinky toddlers that need changing and fed. hehehehe

I moved in Aria to help out.

-- You can't direct the toddlers to play with the peg or xylophone, however you can still play with them with either object if they choose to play with the object. They don't seem to skill up with the objects.

You can teach talk/walk and does gain skill!! Yay!! -- And does gain you "points" on the report card.  It helps you gain job performance. Playing with the peg/xylophone does? -- I'm still questioning this one, but have them out so the toddlers can play with them anyway, regardless if it helps gain job performance or not.  I like having things for the toddlers to do. :)
Title: Re: Daycare Profession Challenge and Play-Through
Post by: MrsFlynn on January 22, 2023, 12:32:24 AM
Wk2-D2 -- I'm on the clock, but no toddlers. After having a few in-game days off.  Wonder if this could be because I did a Reset Everything the day before W2-D1? (and also saved the game.) Going to keep playing to see what I get for W2-D3.  This might also be because I'm not friends with the parents of the toddlers?  I read that might be a cause. I am still Lv1 Amateur Babysitter.

Hmm.. We get to W2-D3 and the game says I have today off?? Not sure I believe that. I wanted to take a screenshot to show that I'm about a little under halfway-ish to leveling up.  -- Today (W2-D3) is Leisure Day. That's why I have it off. *Smacking Forehead*  Derp.

I do notice that I don't know one of the parents at all. The other parent does show up as an acquaintance - I did meet them at the festival and nice introduction or something like that. I haven't done that with the other parent. *Blush*  That still doesn't explain why neither of the toddlers were dropped off yesterday.

Wk2-D4 -- On the clock, but no toddlers again (2nd day of this happening). Not sure what to make of it other than not knowing the parents of one of the toddlers?  Or this profession is -that- glitchy.  If tomorrow (Wk2-D5) is still no toddlers. I've got a few choices to try as part of troubleshooting.

1. Quit and join profession again.
2. Reset Town/Evict or Move Household and move 'em back in.
3. Add more families with toddlers into town.
4. Befriend the toddlers and their parents, even if need to cheat - Do this as a test if desired.

Wk2-D5 - Third day no toddlers.  Added in some pre-made families with toddlers from the library. - freerealestate on totally rocks!! :) Not sure if that will help today, but it should for tomorrow.  I'm also moving the family, bulldoze the house, replace it and move them back in. I wasn't feeling all that confident that adding families and moving really helped, so I quit the job and was able to join back up again. I'm hoping all of this helps. Quitting and rejoining wiped out my job experience progress, I figured it would.  I still have friendships with the toddlers and that counts.

Game says it's getting close to a few days off. So  I might not get to see if this all helped till next Monday. And it's Thurs in-game right now.

Interesting.

Here is where I'm stuck:

Jasmine applied for the daycare profession on a wednesday. The next day, thursday, was Leisure Day. It is friday now and the game says that work starts in three days. So, I haven't gotten anywhere at all yet!

However, last time i played the profession, there didn't seem to be anything malfunctioning. Therefore, I'm yet hopeful. If work doesn't start on monday in-game, I will have her quit and re-apply.

Thank you so much for posting an update!! I felt like I was going crazy last night. I finally had to say, I'm done for the evening. lol  I'll jump in-game here in a bit to see if I get anywhere after my Sim takes some days off.

W2-D6-Fri. - 3 Days off. Waiting it out and hope Monday brings in Toddlers. lol  I'm not trusting that red circle. It throws me off.

W3-D2-Mon. - Parents drop off toddlers!! Yay!! Troubleshooting tips paid off!! Now we'll see if we can keep this ball rollin' for a few more days!!

It looks like you can teach walk and talk, but you don't need too. If you have high free-will your Daycare Sim(s) seem to take care of the kids for the most part. It does seem to have to do some actions to make sure toddlers are fed and diapered.

It is nice to have a helper, specially if you have more than one toddler/kids, you can setup actions for the other Sim to help with the other toddlers  when main Sim is busy taking care of one.

Whoot!! The report says we did a good job!!

Looks like you can't interact with the parents or Sims who drop off and pick up the toddlers/kids?  If that's the case, that's somewhat of a bummer.   More interaction you can do with the parents or Sims who drop off and pick up I would think the better it would be for job performance?

As I mentioned earlier, I wanted to combine this with the other shell challenge build. I've finished my house and loaded in necessary child care objects and have a new sim who actually got the daycare profession right away.

This is Debbie - She's neat, friendly, charismatic, nurturing and has a good sense of humor. We'll see how that goes. :D

So she just moved into her new house and it's pouring rain. Then the mascot showed up. I've been reading how to get rid of him but I can't figure it out. :(

Mrs Flynn, how did you get an assistant. I'm not there yet since it's only day 1 but if I need one...

I added a Sim to the SavedSim folder. \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\SavedSims
Loaded CAS, found her via Custom Sims, saved her to the Library and then added her to my household.  This Sims in not an NPC. It is one that you'll need to control.

You can dismiss or ask the mascot leave. They usually only come to your house once and don't come back unless you make friends with them. You can also delete the basket they put on your lawn or front porch.

To get rid of them for your current save only, you can use Register.  I have notes here (https://jadekitten.net/mfhot/index.php?topic=18.msg2070#msg2070).

I asked him to leave and he did, but he came back and came right into the house. This time I shooed him away so I hope that means he's left for good.

I'm working on getting my sim stats filled up. Right now she's watching tv but I might send her to the bookstore so she can meet someone.

I just noticed my job doesn't start for 3 more days. Lots of time to work on skills.

Wk3-D3-Tues.  Toddlers were dropped off and day went Great!! With only a few hiccups. lol  One of the toddlers decided to walk outside without a jacket on. I had to have Aria run to get them.  Maybe teaching walk isn't such a good idea? hehehe

Was so shocked that happened, I didn't get a screenshot.

When we've got a full work-week (which seems to be only 4 days at the moment) it seems to be easier to get into the grove of things.

Those days off and holidays really throw me off when I first started.

Wk3-D4-Wed.  Looks like it's Spooky Day. Not sure if it's it's recognized as a holiday or not. Yep. It's recognized as a holiday. = No Work Day.

Clicked on Mapview to look around town, specially at Mirabello Plaza, the Festival Lot, or Big Park and see the families I placed into my save.   I haven't seen any of them show up for daycare.  I'm wondering if adding them in after the save has already been started doesn't really help what I'm calling the "On-the-Clock" bug?

All these days off and holiday means no pay... Daycare workers don't seem to get paid a whole lot. Around $100-ish to start up to close to $200-250, if doing a good/great job, per work day. Thank goodness my Sims have gardening. lol :)

Wk3-D5-Thurs.  Yay!! Toddlers!! Hungry little tots!! Pick em up, Snuggle, Feed and Change 'em and sometimes repeat. Got a Great report, raise and am Lv.2 - Cool Care-Giver!! Whoot!!

Day 1 of actual work is going well so far. Munchkins are fed and changed and are on the move in the walkers.

Debbie even had the chance to grab lunch and visit the loo. When do the little stinkers nap?

(https://i.ibb.co/52pn0tz/Screenshot-14.jpg) (https://ibb.co/52pn0tz) (https://i.ibb.co/pQTxPWQ/Screenshot-15.jpg) (https://ibb.co/pQTxPWQ) (https://i.ibb.co/6tr6Mc7/Screenshot-16.jpg) (https://ibb.co/6tr6Mc7) (https://i.ibb.co/Z8DDb0y/Screenshot-17.jpg) (https://ibb.co/Z8DDb0y) (https://i.ibb.co/6Z32Xkf/Screenshot-18.jpg) (https://ibb.co/6Z32Xkf)

But we have a little problem now. Korry is stuck in his walker facing the wall and Debbie can't pick him up.

Solved: I took down the wall that was in front of the walker and dad was able to pick him up. If I'd done that sooner, I might have got a better score for Korry. Oh well. Day one went well and was fun.

I don't think they take naps.  I haven't seen the option to do so.  It seems like the gist of it is to take care of the needs of the toddlers/kids and maybe teenagers while they're in your care.  Keep them fed, clean and entertained.
Title: Re: Daycare Profession Challenge and Play-Through
Post by: Lapaige46 on January 23, 2023, 03:37:14 PM
I put them in the cribs for a bit and they seemed quite happy there. I thought they would put their heads down and nap but they didn't. They played and chattered to themselves. I had hoped to see them interact with each other but it was only day one and I'm still working through the options for them. A lot of times I got a "no interaction" message.

I don't have much of an update this play session.  Trying to get through the weekend. I'm on Sunday morning at the moment.  I did add a mod from MtS that allows daycare workers to work on Fridays (https://modthesims.info/d/618708), so I'm hoping that will help for this next work week.

I do want to note, I did get both my Sims the Super Nanny (25,000 points) Lifetime Rewards (https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Lifetime_reward)

When I had enough points to get them.  Got Super Nanny because I figured it might help the little tots happy and make my Sims better at their job.

Wk4-D2-Mon.  During the time off, I did meet one of the toddlers caregivers and was able to make friends with them. So now I know all 3 parents/caregivers of the toddlers.

Errm... So I thought. Now that I'm lv2, I got another toddler to take care of and two more caregivers to meet and befriend. This makes 3 toddlers to take care of. Oooh boy!! And a bumpy start to the mornin'.

1. Lonely and Hungry ; 2. Stressed and in need of attention ; 3. Does not like the xylophone lol ; 4. End of Day - We're all still alive!! Yay!!

I did get a great report, as I was able to keep everyone in a great mood.  Yay!!

--  Tip: You (your main daycare provider Sim) can't interact with parents/caretakers of the toddlers/kids when they're getting dropped off or picked up. Try befriending them on your days off or after work. If you're wanting to gain friendship with the parents/caretaker, from what I have learned. It seems like with this career friendship with parents/caretaker doesn't matter.

Interactions are:  Snuggle, Tickle, Toss in Air, Attack with the Claw, Change Diaper, Change Outfit, Feed on Floor, Teach Talk/Walk maybe available, and Chat if they know how to talk.

Lv2 gets §200. a week up to §360 a day, maybe more if you can get a better report.

Wk4-D3-Tues.  Day went well, was able to keep everyone entertained, fed and clean.  Got a Great report!! :)

Is becoming friends with the parents something you need to do for the game, or just something you want to do?
Title: Re: Daycare Profession Challenge and Play-Through
Post by: Nindigo on January 24, 2023, 07:10:01 AM
Relationship with the parents is 100% irrelevant for the profession far as I can tell. And since I've played a good deal with this profession before up until getting extra work, I can say that friendship with the kids doesn't seem to factor in either, but just happens naturally as you train them.

Seems like at the moment there is enough to do with just taking care of the kiddos and yourself.

Debbie's second day went great.

Little Therese is a fiercely independent little girl. She was the first to walk and then she took off outside. Thankfully she went into a fenced yard. Korry, on the other hand, seems to be quite needy. He's not yet walking, nor does he seem to be interested in entertaining himself.
Therese decided she didn't like her lunch and tossed it on the floor.
Debbie was quite relaxed and enjoyed watching them play, then finally dinner for herself after the kiddos left.

I have a theory about these two little ones. I know Korry's family because I created them. He's the youngest of 5 and probably doesn't have to entertain himself because there's always someone around to play with him. I don't know Therese's family and they're not residents of Riverview as far as I know, but she could very well be an only child and used to amusing herself.

Is there a career in psychology? :D

Day 3 went well again. Everybody went home happy. Debbie got a promotion to "Cool Caregiver". Tomorrow might prove a bit more challenging since she'll be getting another toddler.

Once again Therese was quite happy to entertain herself as long as she was fed and changed. I don't know what her situation is but every day she has someone different drop her off and pick her up and she always arrives hungry. Poor munchkin. I don't think her family life is very good.

Korry continues to need more attention but each day either mom or dad drops him off and picks him up.
When they were in the playpen together, they didn't interact with each other. Therese chattered to herself in the mirror and Korry played with the abacus.

It's an interesting dynamic.

Started a new save with Seasons pack disabled and work Friday mod installed.  I added a few families with toddlers from the household library in hopes that it will help the the career. (It has!!)  Added Aria to my family as my helper Sim.

Was able to get the Daycare profession right away from checking with the computer and things seemed to be going okay, until they weren't. Something just felt off. Not sure how to explain. One of the tots didn't get picked up. I quit the game and will be starting over again with my same Sims.

How's it going for you Nindigo?

It's the end of the first week and it was very successful. All arrived hungry and a couple of them needed a snuggle right away. The new little guy, Joe, is at least crawling, and found his way to the toys where he entertained himself for a while. Little Theresa, independent as ever, decided to go walkies outside in the rain. Too bad the game doesn't have baby gates. :D
I'm sad for Korry. He seems content enough to just sit on the floor as long as he's not hungry or in need of a change. He does want to have more fun though but he doesn't play. A few tickles, snuggles and air tosses make him happy
Little Joe's daddy was late picking him up so it was after 8:00 by the time Debbie got her dinner. She barely had time during the day for a bathroom break. She's now fast asleep after a well-deserved soak in the tub.

MrsFlynn: I'm getting ready to give it another try. I've been battling indecisiveness, pains, puppy, og general distraction. I'll be playing in SV via Origin with only Generations installed - super simplified.

Remember me wanting to play with the Andrews family? I'm gonna use Beau as the daycarer while Victoria minds her journalist career :)

I like that idea!! If I end up having to start over again, I'll remember that. lol

My new save is behaving better. Got great reports both days I've played so far.

Here's both Vanessa and Aria teaching walking and talking:

This was tricky to accomplish, but pretty satisfying to do so. :)

Doris had a successful first day, earning the best score possible. Her job performance shot up half way.

After little Theresa came home from school and had done her homework, she played peek-a-boo with little Kristofer Sekemoto which is an efficient way to raise friendship with toddlers, while mom Doris took care of Irene Su's need for a snack.

I cheated in the Super Nanny lifetime reward for Doris after cheating in the skills she needed to complete her lifetime wish. Sorry for cheating, but I'm solely focused on the profession in this save. I also play with static needs, aging off, and zero autonomy.

I miss my resort-playing days in Lunar Lakes with the same family. I'm going to add in a new resort for Doris at some point too.

Oh, and sorry for changing so much between Sims. I'm a little messed up these days due to chronic pain acting up, lack of sleep, new puppy, and just general discomfort.

Oooh good idea to cheat the Super Nanny lifetime reward.  It's all good. We're still learning about the career, what works, what doesn't and sharing tips.  That's what counts!!  And of course hopefully having a little fun while were playing.

Do what you can, Nindigo. No one, except the game) is scoring anyone. I seem to have a lot of stuff going on these days as well.

Debbie's days off didn't start well. She needed to get out because she was going stir-crazy and she wanted to do something fun but it was pouring rain.

(https://i.ibb.co/DWtzRGc/Screenshot-6.jpg) (https://ibb.co/DWtzRGc)

She decided to go to the spa for a nice relaxing massage but the massage table wouldn't work. I'll have to figure that out but that's for a different day.

She decided to get a new wardrobe instead. The stylist on site put her into something funky and totally inappropriate for a daycare worker ... thigh high boots, mini skirt and Elton John glasses ... so she ended up styling herself. I didn't get shots of either outfit but just by looking at what the stylist is wearing...I wouldn't trust him either.

Now I'm off to build a mansion (after breakfast).

Last work week went fairly well. Got great reports and then I come to the current week and got the "On the Clock: bug. Grr!!  In testing I made a backup of both the family and their house separately.

After taking a few real-life hours to troubleshoot, I was able to fix it by evict family, bulldoze home, replace home and replace family.  = This works and got workday notice a little after 9am.

I made note of this and sharing the tip.  I'm hoping we can gather some tips and then put them in the 2nd post of this thread once we learn a little more about it. It would be great to have tips and tricks for this career in one spot, kind of like what we did for the Architectural Design (https://jadekitten.net/mfhot/index.php?topic=178.msg1580#msg1580) and Private Investigator (https://jadekitten.net/mfhot/index.php?topic=161.msg1315#msg1315).

Week 2-Day 1

I kept forgetting to take screenshots so the ones I have aren't great.

Debbie zipped through the 3 day w/e by working on her skills and keeping her social and fun topped up.
(https://i.ibb.co/5L8Gd7y/Screenshot-2.jpg) (https://ibb.co/5L8Gd7y)

She went back to the glass studio where she produced a beautiful dragon's egg (which is still in her backpack)

Therese is her usual feisty self and after she was fed, changed and cuddled, wandered off outside again in the rain. She's a wild child. Her favorite place is inside the toybox.

Little Joey Bruno plays with the toys, scooted around in the walker, talked to himself in the playpen and now he's taken his first steps.
(https://i.ibb.co/42wzjnX/Screenshot-7.jpg) (https://ibb.co/42wzjnX)

Then there's little Korry Moore. He seems happy enough and will scoot around in the walker but he doesn't play with toys, or crawl or try to stand up. He eats, either in the high chair or takes a bottle on the floor. He gets pretty stinky and has a bit of a temper tantrum if he's not changed quickly (whole family are redheads - that could be why). What's odd is that other than the cuddling, tickling, etc, I don't have the option to teach him to walk or talk.
I wonder if it's because he's part of a family that I've created and not spawned by the game.

Anyway, the day ended and the tots got sent home all feeling great so it was a successful day.

Week 2 - Day 2

The day went well again. Everyone went home happy even though Korry's daddy was late.
Debbie got a promotion and tomorrow gets a new little one. This could get challenging and I might have to hire an assistant. :D

Started off rocky when Therese thew a little tantrum and tossed her food on the floor because she was stinky.

She loves that activity table and Korry obviously likes the swing. I might need to get 4 of them!

Korry is bonding with the bear.

Played through a few days, with a great report. Still got Friday this week. I might take out that (Work Fridays) mod.

It's not that I don't know the value of time off. It's more that I wanted to get to learn more of the routine of the career. With having Seasons installed, it throws a monkey wrench into the work week by making Thurs a holiday. Depending on how long the season lengths are set for. I have read they can end up being on Friday in some cases.

With that I thought it would be good to try the game with Seasons disabled. That got rid of the holidays!! :) I like that I've learned the routine, but am missing the festivals and the change of seasons.  I think I'll wait to re-enable Seasons though, at least for now.

Here are a few screenshots from the last few work-days.

Sam playing in the toybox.  Vanessa holding a fussy Malika.

Malika playing in the toybox a few hours later.

Vanessa playing with Sandi in the Swing.

Later, Sandi spotted snoozing in the Swing. :)

I did notice now that I've got 4 toddlers I have to keep an eye more on my main daycare Sim (Vanessa) to make sure she looks after some of the tots.  I expect to do that with Aria, as she's the helper Sim, but not with the main daycare Sim.

I kind of feel it takes all of us, Vanessa, Aria and me to take care of the toddlers to keep em happy, entertained, fed and clean. lol

I never think about uninstalling random EPs. That seems like a lot of bother but maybe it's different through Steam. But then I'm also klutzy enough that I could end up messing up something else.  ::) I just go into options and make summer really long and the rest only a couple of days. I've also turned off all the weather events except for rain which it seems to be doing a lot lately. But, I'm happy to be having fall at the moment, as short as it is, because I got some beautiful screenshots this morning. :D

It's that time. Time for tea and chocolate digestives.

I wouldn't recommend disabling eps/sps if you're not familiar with the install/uninstall process works in Steam, as there's a specific way to do it. There's many how-tos, but it is easy to mess things if you're not familiar with what you need to do.

It's relatively easy to disable expansions/stuff packs via disc and the Origin/EA app. With the disc version you need a mod from MTS to help with disabling expansions. Sim Game Selector 3.0 - https://modthesims.info/d/499140

With the Origin/EA App, a pack selector is built-in to the Sims 3 Launcher.

Regardless of all of that, it's not about changing the Season length in the game options. Tried that and it didn't turn off the holidays.

You can turn off Holidays with Nraas Tempest from what I've read, but at the moment I'm trying not to add more mods to my game than I have to. At least right now it seems like over-kill to add Tempest just to do one thing... Though I might consider it later.

I always play with weather off because the flickering of the thunder bothers me and when I've had rain/snow turned on it would rain/snow for days and get to be bothersome and lag my computer more so that it already does.

Post by: Lapaige46 on January 31, 2023, 07:01:08 AM
I have no intention of turning off any EPs so there's no need to find the mod for me, but thank you anyway.  ;D

Week 2 - Day 3 & 4- can't post screenshots at the moment because imgbb seems to be down. I'll post pix when it comes back up.

I moved my daycare house to a different lot with the fear that I'd lose everything, but it's all ok. Whew.

I now have four littles. I have the regulars, Therese and Korry but I don't have Joey anymore. I now have Tad and another little girl whose name I've forgotten already. :D I was able to manage solo for now but I don't know if I could handle any more kids. How many do they give you anyway???

The day went pretty well with everyone except Korry having a "great" day. Korry was a little moody because he was only having a little bit of fun. I was just about to play with him when the day ended.

There was a very cute moment when he and Therese connected. She sat down in front of him and started interracting with him and the next thing you know, first he's crawling and then walking. He hadn't done any of that before so that's good.

Day 4 went great. Everyone ended the day happy. Time for some social life.

Daycare Career levels, according to SimsWiki: https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Daycare

Lv.1 - Amateur Babysitter = 2 toddlers
Lv.2 - Cool Caregiver = 3 toddlers
Lv.3 - Daycare Dynamo = 4 toddlers
Lv.4 - Good Guardian = 5 kids* (4 toddlers 1 kid)
Lv.5 - Daycare Specialist = 6 Kids* (4 toddlers 2 kids)

This could include a mix of toddlers and kids and will include weekend work.

Thank you for having me look that up. I've been meaning to put that in my personal notes.  I haven't played yet today.

As I wrote in my personal thread, I have decided to attack this challenge with premade Sim Doris Lucas of Lunar Lakes, who is a mother of a girl child and a teenaged son. Staying with them is her son's girlfriend. Both teenagers have part-time jobs and her daughter is attending the Scouts afterschool activity. I'm in fact exploring the entire Generations expansion pack this time around, which is why I also post updates on this family in Nindigo's Table.

Doris started out on a monday and has just finished her second monday. Thus, we are on the second in-game week. So far, she has worked for five days total and only gotten great scores, and so she is close to reaching level 3 of this profession. I haven't run into any issues with the profession yet. I play with static needs, so that Doris can focus 100% on the daycare kids. After bumping the current three toddlers' overall status to a pink 'doing great' after their arrival in the morning, it seems to only be a matter of maintaining them for the duration of the day. One toddler needed extended care once by an hour or so. No trouble at all. The one toddler the game had to generate has multiple caretakers and so far only teens. Very sus.

There are some teensy routing challenges using her prebuilt house, but I will not be addressing them as of yet.

Tip:

Have an expensive TV with high entertainment value and keep it turned on or turn it on just before the daycare kids arrive. They will be compelled to watch TV as the first thing and get their overall mood to 'great' in no time, while you start taking care of everyone's immediate needs.

Around 1-2pm, Doris is on top of things.

Daycare Debbie had a great weekend. Day 1

She started off at the bookstore with a good gossip session with her friend Myrna.

Lots of people enjoying the bookstore on a rainy afternoon.
(https://i.ibb.co/93GRSKp/Screenshot-31.jpg) (https://ibb.co/93GRSKp)

Off to the bakery across the street where she purchased a treat and sat down to eat it.
Bakery was pretty busy too even though there was no one manning the till. (have to fix that).
Josiah Smith decided to unpack his drum kit for a little impromptu session. Weird!

Then to the spa for a little hydrotherapy session. The other room looks pretty but it doesn't work. (I'll have to figure that out).

Day 2.

Checked out Gabby's Bar and Grill where she enjoyed a game of darts and shot some pool. A little run over to the festival grounds to see what was going on there and tried rollerskating.

Some Sunday evening relaxation before starting a new week with additional youngsters.
(https://i.ibb.co/yRbC84W/Screenshot-25.jpg) (https://ibb.co/yRbC84W)

She definitely needs to work on her art skills.
(https://i.ibb.co/YD5WWSM/Screenshot-38.jpg) (https://ibb.co/YD5WWSM)

Then there was this random tourist singing to the statue in the park.

Gotta love the sometimes randomness of The Sims 3.

My Doris had to look after one toddler for an extended time yesterday, and just when they were finally picked up, their status changed from great to good. The games loves to throw a wrench into my perfectionist machinery like that ;D

But we are on four toddlers now...

Doris Lucas of Lunar Lakes has been promoted to Good Guardian which is job level 4 out of 5 of the Daycare profession. She took care of two toddlers on saturday as well. I use Twoftmama's Faster Toddler Training v5 mod. Doris has taught little Irene Su to walk, talk, and potty. She is now working on Kristofer Sekemoto's toddler skills.

Wk3-D3-Tues. - Got a Great Report for the tots. Bella was Okay. Tried to do some friendly interactions with her which may have been a mistake. Next time I'll just let her finish her homework which she automatically starts by herself.

Wk3-D2-Mon. - Got a Great Report, except for Bella which was Good. Pretty good for 1st day of having a child. lol

Malika the escape artist.. lol!! - That happened on Tues.

One of the other tots tried to escape on Mon, but was laughing to hard and missed the chance.

I put up a gate and I haven't had any escapees since. :D
It was Love Day so Debbie went to the Spring Fair. Other than a smooch at the kissing both, it was a pretty depressing day. Very gloomy and pouring rain.

She decided to hang out at the bakery for a bit - it seems to be a happening hang out - and she met a handsome firefighter. They seem to have a lot in common. Could there be a romance in Debbie's future? Time will tell.

The rain stopped and it turned into a pleasant evening so Debbie went for a walk around the neighborhood.

Wed got a Great Report including for Bella. Thurs Lv'd up to 5 Daycare Specialist and got a daycare van. Great Report for the tots and Okay for Bella, at least her homework is complete. Next work week I am to be working with 4 toddlers and 2 kids.

Not sure what this weekend will bring, but have a feeling I'll be working weekends for the foreseeable future.

Just letting you guys know that I don't plan to continue playing the daycare profession after Doris gets the final promotion. I'm too exhausted.

No problem.  Thank you for playing along this far and helping with questions and tips. :)

Me too, Nindigo. Debbie will continue to live in Riverview and be the daycare lady. She might come into play again as she comes up in rotation and after all, there may be a romance blooming. :D

Right. At least we'll be able to cross it off the bucket list.

The daycare profession is probably most fun to play if the toddlers and kids are well known either premades or otherwise purposefully designed. I find caring for and training puddingfaces utterly meaningless. Not to mention their host of randomly generated caretakers. I will be culling these households once I'm finished playing the profession.

By the way, the parents of Doris' daycare children are frequently sending her lots of gifts (paintings) for her extra work. Some of them are actually quite valuable.

Because I'm rebuilding RV and all the residents have been created by me, the only toddler I am familiar with is Korry Moore. The rest are random. I have a few kids in my families so it will be interesting to see which ones show up. Oddly, it's Korry who is the least active of the toddlers. The others move around to different activities but he just sits there. He will play if he's in the playpen and the first time I put him in the walker he moved around but hasn't since. When Debbie called for story time, he got up and walked to her.

Maybe eventually I'll put another todder in with a family and see what happens. Actually, I can do that now, can't I? I think I know the perfect family. :)

I've been noticing Vanessa getting quite a few gifts from the parents/care givers. They range in value. One was a skeet ball machine valued at over $5000.

I did try to search how to stop getting the gifts, but not much information came up on how to stop getting these types of gifts.

I don't mind the gifts since I haven't used money cheats, so the extra funding quite helps.

It's the weekend for Doris & Co. right now. I'm anxious to get the last few work days over with :)

I haven't used any money cheats but I did use the Free Realestate cheat and I built her house in Edit Town mode. I didn't even think to check for gifts. Right now I'm working on a little experiment with a new family member.

I didn't use any money cheats either, except freerealestate on to move my family and a few other families in.

Gifts come by mail. They seem to come in starting after maybe Lv3 of the career or so.

I believe the gifts start coming when your daycarer has put in some extra hours.

Hmmm. Seems we have a problem. After all that work to get a new toddler for testing purposes, a new day for Daycare Debbie, with her new uniform, and...no kiddos.

I fast-forwarded through the day to see if any of the older kids showed up but instead, her new potential romantic interest showed up.

Did you get the "On the Clock" bug too?

I had the issue and what worked for me is to save family and their house separately via Edit Town. Then evict family, bulldoze home, replace home and replace family.

If you don't want to try that you could try:

1. Reset Town/Evict or Move Household and move 'em back in.
2. Quit and join profession again.
3. Try going back a save before the experiment.

You might try experimenting in a test-save instead of your main game. At least for the Daycare career. Since it seems sensitive to any kind of change. Though this seems to be the case with any Sims 3 career.

Title: Re: Daycare Profession Challenge and Play-Through
Post by: Lapaige46 on February 07, 2023, 05:57:04 PM
I didn't check for the bug but went back to a previous save and Debbie's day went great for the toddlers but her big girl was only moderately happy because she finished her homework but wasn't having much fun. Not only that, but she went and sat out in the yard so Debbie was running back and forth trying to interact with her and keep an eye on the little ones.  ::)

My experiment didn't pan out as I'd hoped. I was hoping that Cassie, my new toddler would be brought to the daycare but she wasn't and I think I might know what. Her daddy is in the architect career and I have to send him out to do jobs or else he stays home which would mean if he wasn't the active sim with a job to do, there would be no need for daycare. I'll have to rethink this...or not. :D

However, what did happen is that little Korry, who up until now was pretty placid and wouldn't move from his spot, was up walking and playing with various toys. I'm abandoning my experiment now because the whole point was to find out if a toddler that I created and wasn't random would act differently from the others. Since Korry is now acting like the others I don't need to go any further.

So, overall, Debbie's first day as a Good Guardian went quite well but now she's hungry and tired.

Oh, and she got a sweet note in the mail from her firefighter guy asking her out on a date. :D

So the Daycare breaks if you switch household and then return to the daycarer? That sounds plausible.
Title: Re: Daycare Profession Challenge and Play-Through
Post by: Lapaige46 on February 07, 2023, 09:31:49 PM
I don't think the daycare broke because I switched households. I think there was just a glitch in the save because when I went back to a previous save and did the same thing, it was fine.

I should clarify. I didn't switch households while the kids were at the daycare. That might have broken it if I'd done that. I switched households during the night when everyone was sleeping.  ;)

To the daycare system, it may not matter. This is true with a lot of the careers in the game.

Well, Timothy (elementary school daycare kid) somehow took ages to get to Doris' house one day - around the time he was supposed to leave - so he got swept away and sent home by the game just outside her door. Lol?

One more day and she'll get her final promotion 8)

Got to Mon. of a new work week and had to evict family, bulldoze their house, replace their house and them back into the house because I got hit with the "On the Clock" bug. Not sure why that happens, but it seems ? to happen most when there's a long weekend? It's happened twice maybe 3 times now since I started this round of the daycare career.

Wk4-D2-Mon. - Started of with 5 toddlers. Had to restart the game.  Went back a save to just before the work day started to be on the safe side, so lost a toddler. lol That's okay. Not sure I'm ready for 5 toddlers yet. Day went well for the most part. Got a Great report for all the toddlers, and for Bella I got a Good report. At least her homework was done.

Bought an expensive wall tv. (Thanks for the tip Nindigo!!) It's helps keep everyone entertained.  I do have to say what was on the tv was a little disturbing ?? for little kids to be watching. I tried to change the channel but couldn't. Thinking that could be because the tv hasn't been upgraded to do so. Neither of my Sims have any handiness skill.  *Blush*

Wk4-D3-Tues. - Started the day with 5 toddlers. I had to laugh at that because I just said when I started this play session that I wasn't ready for 5 tots. It went mostly well I suppose. Got mostly great, 1 good and Okay for Bella.

I was really busy with the tots and Bella came in did her homework and left as she didn't stop by till after 5pm and left a little after 6pm.

Screenshot was taken on Tues. After the 5 tots arrived. That's still a scary image on the tv screen!!

Interesting observation is that it doesn't seem to matter what is on the tv, they still seem happy and can get into a great mood when the tv is on. :)

That sounds about right. The kids don't seem to be there long enough to really do anything with them let alone their homework.

Well, Timothy (elementary school daycare kid) somehow took ages to get to Doris' house one day - around the time he was supposed to leave - so he got swept away and sent home by the game just outside her door. Lol?

I quit. Doris got promoted and then the bugs started happening. Kids that didn't arrive and kids that didn't get picked up. *crosses challenge off bucket list*

Tues - noisy start but the toddlers all went home in a great mood.
The child Jessica wasn't having much fun so I sent her to play and as a result she didn't finish her homework. She was a little hungry but there didn't seem to be an option to feed her. I'm thinking I have to have something ready to eat before she gets there. She still went home in a good mood.

(https://i.ibb.co/HYr4YqC/Screenshot-14.jpg) (https://ibb.co/HYr4YqC) (https://i.ibb.co/dLjhpt6/Screenshot-17.jpg) (https://ibb.co/dLjhpt6) (https://i.ibb.co/d24D0Pz/Screenshot-18.jpg) (https://ibb.co/d24D0Pz)

Wed - Went great. Everyone went home happy, even Jessica who was a little hungry. I had made a peanut butter sandwich and left it on the counter but there was no option available for her to eat it.

Debbie was invited to her possible romantic interest's birthday party so after work she got dolled up and off she went. She managed to chat with him for about 5 minutes before he decided he was tired and needed to sleep. Debbie came home and went to bed to be ready for Thursday.

To change the channel on the tv, I just had Debbie sit down and watch before the kiddos got there. She was able to change to Kidz-zone. After that all she had to do was to turn the tv on and it automatically came up to the kid's channel. I don't have an expensive one - just the one that sits on the cabinet.

Sweet Saturday moments with just the 2 little girls.
Debbie was sitting in the chair watching them play when Therese toddled over and wanted up on Debbie's lap. Then she kept asking for hugs.

Lapaige, that TV of yours -is- an expensive one :)

And also an advice - don't use the high chairs. Just feed the toddlers a bottle on the floor. Doing that makes the caring for them much more fluid and less time consuming. And more importantly, it means less routing for all the Sims involved to take into consideration.
Title: Re: Daycare Profession Challenge and Play-Through
Post by: Lapaige46 on February 09, 2023, 08:50:59 AM
Ah. I considered it far less expensive than some of the others.

I like the high chairs. I put them all in the chairs as soon as they arrive and feed them all at once, then change them in rotation whether they need it or not and let them go. Then I just watch to see who needs what, whether it's attention, changing or a bottle. Near the end of the day I do storytime. That's a routine that's working for me. I'm not going to mess with it.  :)

Fair enough :)

I found a rhythm too:

- wait for parents/whatever to leave
- feed everyone
- change everyone
- let everyone find an activity to get into a great mood
- wait a while
- lather, rinse, repeat
- take care of lonely and/or smelly kids in between
Title: Re: Daycare Profession Challenge and Play-Through
Post by: MrsFlynn on February 09, 2023, 03:54:57 PM
Nindigo's post made me ask myself what's my rhythm.

1. Turn on the tv around 8 - 8:30am.
2. I too wait for Sim parents/caregivers to leave.  I've been either having Vanessa read a book or work on her writing. While we wait for everyone to arrive and leave.
3. I check what everyone needs. It varies day to day - food, diaper change, socializing. I find if I don't do what they're asking for 1st we don't get any peace.

I tried feeding everyone first thing at least a couple of times, even those that either wanted socializing or diaper change. That didn't work for them.  They took the bottle, but they still wanted to either be changed or wanted socializing.

Since then I've checked everyone needs first. Have Vanessa look over two toddlers and Aria the other two. Make sure those 4 are good and then Vanessa or Aria gets the 5th toddler. Depending on who gets done first.

With having the tv on when the tots first arrive the routine seems to go a lot smoother.

I sometimes put the playpen into family inventory till the afternoon. To prevent Vanessa from putting the toddlers into it while still trying to get everyone settled in for the day. I've caught her trying to put one of the tots in the playpen a few different times while still needing something.

There are times I'm finding I'd rather have the tots out playing with whatever instead. I too don't play with highchairs. I find it a lot easier to feed on the floor.
Title: Re: Daycare Profession Challenge and Play-Through
Post by: Lapaige46 on February 09, 2023, 04:46:50 PM
I feed them in the chair as soon as they come in because most of them are very hungry.
After that I  just give them bottles when they're looking for a snack.
Title: Re: Daycare Profession Challenge and Play-Through
Post by: Nindigo on February 10, 2023, 12:40:11 AM
For clarification purposes - wether the toddlers are very hungry or just wanting a snack, feeding a bottle on the floor will do the trick in both cases. A meal in a high chair is not a requirement, simply a gamplay flavor.

Tip to preserve one's sanity: Don't play with sound on ;D
Title: Re: Daycare Profession Challenge and Play-Through
Post by: Lapaige46 on February 10, 2023, 02:19:59 AM
I am aware that it's not a requirement. :)  I like putting them in the high chairs, all lined up like little birds waiting for their breakfast. It was pretty funny when Therese had a little tantrum and threw her food on the floor. I also like the sounds. It was very sweet when Therese was sitting on Debbie's lap and they were having a little chat.

First day of Debbie's new rank with 5 toddlers went great. Newly created Cassie showed up. Yay!
Debbie's enjoying a quiet read for a little fun before she goes to sleep.
I only had one kid show up and she was hungry as usual. I had left a grilled cheese sandwich on the counter which she ate. :)

Wk4-D4-Wed. - Finally get to play!! Had to start the day over twice, but I got it!! Day went Great for the most part, Bella's report was Good. At least she got her homework done.

Wk4-D5-Thurs. - Got through my last day of the work week. Day went great again with the toddlers and Good with Bella. She got her homework done and then went home.

I had to use Nraas Reset Everything because a toddler wasn't picked up with the rest of them. With me coming up on a long weekend and already have run into the On the Clock bug twice. I am going to end it here.

It's a fun career to play when you've got a few basics and all goes smoothly, but does get frustrating and less fun when you get hit with bugs and glitches time after time.

I do have to say that I enjoyed watching the toddlers play peek-a-boo with each other in the playpen, but I think my favorite part was when they'd all watch tv and chat together. :)

I finished my week and one munchkin didn't get picked up so I added a crib and stuck him in it. Of course he didn't sleep and woke Debbie up in the middle of the night needing a change.

Then I had a thought - Shift-Ctrl-C-resetsim and munchkin went poof and Debbie went back to bed. I think I'm actually going to continue with it until the experience bar is full. Everything has been great so far and other than this one little glitch, I've had no problems.

I also just gave her the Supernanny Lifetime Wish.  :D
