Title: House Build Challenge #8 - Morven, a 1750's Governor's Mansion
Post by: MrsFlynn on January 25, 2023, 07:02:05 AM
The 1st image is of the front of the house. The 2nd image is the floor plan for the 1st floor, the portion I marked out in red is now a porch. More info of said porch is in the 7th image. The 3rd image is the floor plan for the 2nd floor. The 4th image is, from facing the front door, the right side of the house. Don't worry about the plan on the far right, the far left plan is the one that matters. The 5th image is the rear of the house. The 6th image is a picture of the a portion of the rear part of the house in the present day. The house has gone through some changes from these plans that I would like to be included if possible. The 7th image is what the left, from facing the front door, rear side of the house is like in the present day, its now a porch. I'd like that to be included. The 8th image is a front view of the house in the present.

Seasons, Ambitions, Generations, Late Night and Pets. No store content. Unfurnished is fine.

Prelimary layout of the middle section. Started with a 20x20 lot. Because foundations/walls can't be placed on the property line, the back wall of the solarium will stay open for now to be filled in when it's moved to a larger lot.

Here's my middle part floorplan, at the moment:

Rooms - 6x8 (at front of middle of house)
Room - 4x8 + whatever for bay window area. (at back of house)
Hall - 4x8 (trunk of T)
Hall - 16x4 (top of T)

3x8 - back porch on kitchen side (left)
3x9 - back porch on livingroom side (right)

4x4 - Bathroom
6x8 - Room with baywindow
4x6 - Kitchen
6x10 - Diningroom
6x10 - Livingroom

6 Bedrooms and 3 baths upstairs
4x6 - 2 of them - one in middle and the other to the back left.
5x6 - 3 of them on either side of middle ; and one to the far left.
6x6 - bedroom on the right

Built on a 40x30 lot, can be placed on any larger lot.

  ----

plan so far:

My vision of the house -

Back porches to the left and right.

Kitchen and huge dining area to left and large formal livingroom to the right. Not sure what to make of the two rooms in the main part of the house. lol

I had to go back to my drawing board, but not to far back. lol Basically to the floorplan I shared earlier.  Was actually pretty far along when I found I wasn't able to put stairs by the bay window.

Anyway, here's the first few or so screenshots of the build.

I'm happy that I did go back, cause I got to edit the floorplan just a bit.  I'm really liking how it's turning out. :)

I did save a copy of the build without a roof on the left back (showing right in the screenshots above). Thinking of going back and adding a deck on the 2nd floor above the back porch on what I call the kitchen side.

Here's some more screenshot of the house, up to how it currently looks in my game so far.

I had some time to build last night, so I took advantage of the time I had. This is the build in stages.

To what it looks like currently in my save...

And the inside, which didn't really get done until after I put on the siding on the walls outside.

You have way more done than I do. :D

Phase 1 Exterior is as far as I have.

I tried a few things for some simple landscaping and came up with this for the front and back.

These screenshots were taken from the lot I built it on.  I moved the house to a lot on the cliff side to get screenshots for it's download page link here (https://jadekitten.net/mfhot/index.php?topic=489.msg6263#msg6263).

I'm finished the outside but forgot to  take screenshots before I shut down. Too tired tonight to carry on. :D

Some progress shots. I'm almost done. I've made a few adjustments since these shots were taken.

I'm trying to stay as close to the "script" as possible. :D

MrsFlynn totally goes off-script most of the time. lol

I had a feeling going into this build I was going to get a few things wrong, to be nice. The person who requested the build was really nice about it and said it was great and he like it. While building the first version I did get inspiration to build a 2nd version.

Okay, so I tried to think of this house without a basement, I really did.... But the desire kept calling me. lol

With this build I used the same floorplan I had drawn out previously. I added an open basement, removed the walls in the middle of the house to make it more open and added a deck above the porch on the diningroom side (left) of the house. Also bumped out the middle upstairs back end of the house for a familyroom, reading nook or skilling spot. I also added an attic, but didn't put in a ladder or spiral staircase. I figure that could be up to the player to add if they choose.

I'm sharing screenshots in various build stages.

Here's the renovated floorplan now:

Main Floor:  Open livingroom in the front middle.  Kitchen and diningroom to the left. To the right, the main floor bathroom and formal livingroom.

2nd Floor: 6 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and an area that can be used for a family/skilling area. Attic and basement are open for future renovations.

I had a lot of fun with these builds!!  The story that went through my head as I built the 2nd one is something happened to the house, it was left in pretty bad condition. A wealthy family bought it and renovated it to what you see now. Be careful... They say the attic is haunted. lol

I like your modifications.

As you have probably figured out by now, I'm a stickler for sticking to the script as much as I can. I modify where the game constraints won't let me do what I want. (waahhh...toddler tantrum).

Here is the actual mansion and it's history.
https://www.newyorksocialdiary.com/big-old-houses-a-political-mansion/

Game constraints being what they are, the whole house is on a foundation while the wings of the actual house are not. This results in a split level first floor. I attempted to use CFE but that comes with it's own issues so I went with the full foundation.

I didn't do any landscaping right now because it's sitting on it's 60x40 "build" lot. I'll landscape once I move it to a 64x64 lot. Right now it's ready to go to the requestor.

You did a wonderful job!!  That's one of the biggest reasons I like building with you. You like to keep things more accurate to the plan. You seem to be able to read floorplans better. :)

I didn't want to mess with build cheats so I just went simple - put the whole house on a foundation. It was after I had the original floorplan drawn out that the wings were probably larger than I had made them. The floorplan I was looking at didn't seem to be all that clear for the wings or upstairs.

Thank you. I'd been drawing floor plans since I was a kid and I've designed and built several real life houses.
Next time ask me if you need help. :D
