I like to keep track of my gameplay by creating blog posts with screenshots - kind of a pictured storybook. I have several games going and have labeled them with key words. I'll post my latest installments here, but if the story piques your interest, you can sort by the label and start from the beginning. I like to keep my stories light and whimsical, but on occasion there will be some infidelity or unexpected deaths, and fights do break out. I'm not into graphic depictions of the sexual or violent nature. Instead I like to put my pixel people on high free will, randomize their traits, and spend time getting to know them.

I'll start with Emerald Valley, a map created and shared by Plumbob95, and populated with my own creations and renovations of other's shells. Please see the first post in the series for the acknowledgments of other's contributions. Here's the most current installment.

Cool. I'm very much the same, although I tend to just use forums as my blog. That said, my "stories" are often not suited for minors or the faint of heart, and therefore the forums usually get a censored (and boring, I'm afraid) version. I'm seeing about getting a proper website setup, but it'll be a while before it's up.

I'm headed over to your blog now - thanks for posting about it :)

Dang! I just checked to make sure my link worked, and the good news is that it did, and the bad news is there were tons of typos. I swear I proofread before posting, being a former English teacher and all, but still there were problems. I blame my cats; they have been very attention-seeking lately, and interfere with my typing and proofing. Anyway, I made the corrections. I hope you enjoyed the story. I'll be posting another one tomorrow. It's good to hear from you.

A great read to start off my day - thank you :)

I always thought that it makes for good entertainment to observe the different Sims around town. And like you, I can't help but lend a hand with practical matters here and there. I'm very used to somewhat loosely managing and keeping an eye on a whole town.

Beware of typos!
I have just disovered  this. I was actually browsing Amazon for a new bathrobe and decided to chek in here. Unfortunatley I still can't see very well. The right side of my brain is affecting the left side of my vision and I'm missing chunks of it but we're working on it. I'm hoping to see a neuro-opthamologist one of these days.  This is extremely frustrating. Fortunately the rest of my rehab seems to be going will. They provided me with a cane today in addition to my walker and we have been working on balance exercises. It's all  very exhausting snf my  brain just wants to rest.  I have a daypass to go home this weekend. All my boys will be in one place for a few days so I'm hoping to  get something going. I'm relying on my son to organize it since I can't.

Jenni seems to be the one who's showing the most interest, but they were struggling to get along at the party at her place. He did have a wish to kiss her, though. He was kind of being a jerk at the party, so I sent him home before he did too much damage. They got as high as "good friends" before he started insulting her intelligence. He gave her a gift of wine that he bought from the consignment store, and she accepted. I was going to play a couple other families and come back to see if he got together with anyone autonomously. However, Story Progression saw fit to hire him as a cashier at the new grocery store, so I doubt much will happen with him while I'm away. Here's his new look, by the way.

Oh look! A brick with a face on it! I will love it, and hug it, and kiss it, and marry it! (Old man Gann's new obsession is this brick that he found lying on the ground. I think Mrs. Gann is getting fed up with it. "Put down that brick and come eat!" He was so enthralled that he nearly wet himself.)

The brick came with the Pets EP. I guess it's their answer to the pet rock fad back in the day. Old man Gann has the evil trait and was showing interest in joining the criminal career, but I hadn't built a criminal spot yet in Adventureland. I was, and am still toying with making a laundromat with a gambling room or speakeasy in the back or in the basement, but I saw Tedhi's video on her version of the criminal warehouse that sims can walk-in and decided to place it. She made it a cat jungle with a criminal rabbithole rug. I thought it was very clever, but she apparently left Sir Bricks-o-lot lying on the ground somewhere, and Geraldo spotted it, fell in love with it, and took it home. The Ganns were a rather boring couple, so I'm kind of glad something was introduced to create a little conflict.

 Yes, I have the rug down. I'm thinking I will switch out the food register for a savvy seller register and put rugs under the items for sale. The residents will also have the rabbithole for buying groceries as well as the produce stand. I'll save the food register for a cafe later on. I might have to disable the wall speaker or get rid of it altogether to keep them from dancing. I'm not sure how I'm going stop them from making out. 😄

Great idea!! You mentioning that made me remember the little grocery store I made with the grocery rug and a chess table and a few others things. 

In the save I had it in I had a grocery store rabbithole downtown, but wanted one right next door to my lot so I could quickly sell my produce. I keep forgetting about the produce cart that comes from the store. lol

Yeah, don't think you can stop the makeout sessions. hehehe

You might know this already?  If you have Nraas ErrorTrap, Overwatch, MasterController they will create reports that can be found in: \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

They looks something similar to this: ScriptError__04-26-2022__02-39-45__2246E7ED.xml  The file also has your computer name in it. Which can be removed if desired, when sharing with Nraas.

You can share them over at Nraas: https://www.nraas.net.  They'll be able to help read the reports and tell you why it's throwing the errors.

If you'd rather just delete them (right-click the file > Delete) that's fine.  Some of them are just correction reports and will say so.

You can also get an idea of how to read the reports yourself from this page:

Thanks for the info. I have looked at the error reports before and tried to make sense of them. I think the problem is I run out of RAM because I play on an old run-of-the-mill laptop - nowhere near a gaming computer. Nraas Master Controller, reset everything seems to have fixed what was causing the problem. The only problem now is there isn't anyone at the food register in the grocery store, which I plan to replace with savvy seller anyway, and no one is at the consignment register. I'm going to wait a couple sim days and see if employees are provided. If not, I will delete the consignment register and try putting it back in.

I may be wrong on this because I don't play with any story progression on. It's my understanding if you take an NPC away from their register, for example the consignment register and start playing them they get taken away from that role.  I can't remember if they get replaced or not.  The lot or register may need to either be reset or replaced.  Do you have a backup copy of your consignment shop?

Yeah, I've done this before in various saves, and a new NPC starts tending the register. It's been awhile, and I can't remember how soon they were replaced. It might take a sim day or two. But if they don't show up, I think replacing the register should do the trick.

I love the Sip and Paint party place.  You may not be able to refurbish furniture/decor items, but some electronics can be salvaged.

It works, but not like you might expect. You can for the most part update some of the electronics.  Charred/scratched items are still usable, but will have to pay to replace at full cost. These items can't be repaired and are sometimes worthless. If there's a dumpster on the lot, items from those seem to be in good condition and can be sold. :)

There's a way to get rid of insults, snubbing and negative actions like that via Nraas Retuner. It's a lot of work, but might be worth looking into if they get too annoying.

Wow! I didn't know there was a mod for fixing the junkyard items. I may have to look into it and the retuner mod once my son builds me a rompin' stompin' desktop gaming computer - (either for Mother's day or my birthday). I think my old laptop has accepted all the mods, CC and additional store content it's willing to take.

The plan I had in the back of my head was to keep track of the cost of replacing the items and either cheating back half of the cost via familyfunds or setting the items at higher prices (I think Savvy Seller does this, but I'm not sure) and changing them in creative ways via colorwheel, so they look more like quirky useable art objects than something you'd buy at a furniture store.

In another of my saves, I have a simbot who is an inventor and takes his wares to the marketplace and sells them via Savvy Seller. Customers may buy the same object over and over through the course of the day, and then I sell the items the usual way to get rid of them. I take the $ from the register sales and cheat it into the family funds at the end of the day. It's not all that accurate, but it's close enough for me. I could deduct the money he gets for selling the items the usual way if I want to get a little more accurate. I've attached a picture of Gary selling his wares.

I think I'll try the Sip and Paint event next episode even though I'm sure I won't get all the group to paint the same thing. It will at least get their skills up, and I might be able to eventually get them to the point of painting the same thing. I'm also curious if Sally will spend most of her time drinking nectar and making drinks instead of painting or if the keg thing is a fluke. I'm going to have to jump from household to household while the event is going to get everyone on the same page, but it's pretty easy to do through Nraas Master Controller.

I'm not sure if you can get Sims to do all the same thing. I've never heard of a mod that allows for that, but... I really haven't explored a whole lot of mods either.

I sent some of the ladies to the Art Gallery for a paint and sip party. None of them had any painting skill, so I had them practice painting and all do the same size. Robin was a rebel, but the other two painted the same thing. Another was invited, but she was too tired to come along.

As for the selling found objects from the junkyard, it occurred to me that it's going to take some set-up. Big items always go in the family inventory rather than the backpacks. This means the seller will need to OWN the art gallery, if buying an art gallery is even allowed. If not, I will need to change the type of lot into something they can purchase. This will involve several money cheats and need to keep records on paper to keep track of everything. I was doing a little research on it earlier today. My simbot didn't need to own the lot to sell his inventions, because they were all small ones he could keep in his backpack. I had someone sell their things at an art gallery before, but it was paintings and photos, which also go in a backpack. It seems I tried to have someone own an art gallery before, but the game wouldn't let them. It would buy it back from them once they turned it into a community art gallery from being a residential lot. Hmmm . . . I think there's a shop lot type that came with Midnight Hollow. I'll have to look into that.

The one or two times I've owned community lots it gave the options to upgrade stuff on the lot and maybe fix broken objects. I don't play with career mods and other mods/cc that might help with owning/managing community lots. So you might have to do some extra searching. If you're able to find anything, please do share!!

I've found myself playing this way more often lately. I think of it as a sloppy form of rotational play combined with a build a city challenge. I love creating backstories for randomly generated characters and making my own town lore. I do have a LEPacy coming to an end, and a spin-off of my LEPacy based on a family my household encountered several generations earlier that were begging for their story to be told, but the main ones I play are Adventureland, Winnibegoville, Emerald Valley, and Toledo County, and they all follow this basic formula.

I'd call them "semi-custom." I don't have the capability on my laptop to build a world using the world creator tool, so I download empty worlds other people have made. Emerald Valley is made by Plumbob95. She posts videos of the builds she is putting on it, but I just downloaded the map and placed my favorite builds and favorite sims I have saved to my library. Zac, Sonja, and Antwan are also there, but I haven't played them and I think Zac has died of old age and Antwan might be married with kids of his own by now. I've been focused on other households in that save. Both Toledo and Winnibegoville are on the empty version of Storybrook County from My Sim Realty. I sometimes get the two confused because the map is the same, but the families and venues vary.

The Clary Saga. This is a family I stumbled across when I was playing my LEPacy. The kids are the next generation from the original EA-created characters, and were generated via Nraas Story Progression. I found them interesting, so I created a spin-off save with them as the focus. I'm thinking of saving them to the bin and adding them to Adventureland as the game they're in is rather bloated. I'd also like to save Stefanie's love interests and bring them along too to see who she chooses in the long run. I've only got 4 installments of this story, so  I'll include the whole thing here in case anyone wants the story from the beginning.

I haven't tried yet. I'm thinking of building a big Mediterranean style house up where either the Landgrabbs or Altos used to live. I'll place the whole family there, and maybe move Stef and JC to another house I build for them a little later. Or if Palmona passes, they can inherit the house and the twins can move out when they are young adults. Also, I didn't mention in my post about Boyd Medley and his niece that he had just won 100,000 from the lottery. He might take the other lot in the wealthy neighborhood. I don't know what kind of house to build for him and Lakeisha yet. Boyd is very artistic and Lakeisha loves the outdoors, so I'm thinking maybe a mid-sized house - something modern with a lot of outdoor areas and an art studio with view of the lighthouse and the town. Lakeshia would have two other girls her age living next door - Annabelle and Tracy.

I finally got around to making my version of the Sims 4 Garden Haven promo pic. My lottery winner moved up to the richy rich neighborhood and put it in his back yard. He built a modern house the doesn't really fit too well with the back yard. I don't know whether to change it up or let it be. I'm going to sleep on it and decide tomorrow.

Here's my replacement house to go with the greenhouse and studio. The old one was too modern and clashed. I struggled with the stairs to the house. I tried making the small foundation instead of the usual foundation, but the sims couldn't go into the house. When I placed stairs, they dug a hole. I tried putting flooring under the stairs, but that wouldn't work either. I tried putting a platform in place of the stairs, because they can always step up on platforms, right? Still no luck. I'm sorry you're having issues with the lot. The issue might be because you're not working with a level lot, maybe? The house looks good. Are they able to get into it now?

I don't know that I've ever built directly on that particular lot before. I usually build in a temporary save on a smaller lot and then place the lot in my play-save, some times on a bigger lot.

Now with saying that I do remember doing just that, building a house and adding it to that lot in a few different saves.

I basically lay down free flooring as an outline so to speak.  Making sure to add free flooring where I want stairs to go for front/back porch/deck. This way when I go to place the stairs they don't dig into the ground or whatever.

I could try help troubleshooting? But feel we probably have different building experiences because of the different ways we build.

Lapaige, I see how-to links in your post. *Wink*  I found a couple of how-tos of yours about stairs and CFE and added them to your post. :)

Made a simple box house with the flooring a little bigger than the house and stairs. Left the flooring for the photos to show how I make room for the stairs.

Using the Alt button fixed most of the stairs problem. The front stairs is still being stubborn and insisting on having two steps instead of one, but it's much better than the four steps it was before. The stairs in the back are one step now. Here's the latest episode of Adventureland.

10x10 build challenge from the Facebook group. Requirements: 10x10 lot size only. Theme: Castaway. Here's what I came up with. I had to move the lot to a bigger lot after I built it because Santo, the playtester, couldn't climb up on the island. I needed to create a slope for him. I disguised the mini fridge as one of the crates in the stack.

I don't play rotationally, so I don't know how it will affect your game. From what I understand, when you set the options via Register or game options it's for the whole save file.

Speaking from experience, please-please be careful letting your laptop get hot. I burnt up one of my laptop's video cards by playing too long on warm days without a cooling mat/pad. Even with them you need to be careful, as some laptops still don't have adequate cooling.

An idea to consider is to go through what mods you have currently to see which ones are must haves and get rid of those you don't use much or use anymore. I do this from time to time to help keep the mods I'm using to a minimum.

Sometimes I don't know how to interpret the thought bubbles either when I'm taking the screenshots. Some I know mean probably mean something else. For instance, when William goes to Natashia in the art room and there's the money speech bubble, I originally thought that since he looked bored at her performance earlier that he might be asking for his money back, but the interaction showed that she received the comment positively, so I decided he must be thanking her. In reality, he was probably just mooching money, but that didn't fit into the story. Sometimes I change the order of the screenshots if it tells a better story that way. Alexander slapping Jenni with the glove seemed so random. From the corner of my eye, I saw the glove come out and remembered that he has the Proper trait, so I paused and moved in on the situation, positioned the camera to the best angle, unpaused and paused to get the screenshots, then decided what to do with them after reviewing all the screenshots. I love having a lot of sims on a lot, most of whom I'm not controlling but know something about, and watching where their free will takes them.

I read in your story about water taxi's or whatever they're called and seeing if they come from Island Paradise expansion. I was curious about that too so I did a quick test with and without IP and found the water taxi's or taxi boats come from Island Paradise.

First test was without IP and had a Sim swim to a spot and try to take the taxi back to land... And they swam back to shore.

Second test was with IP and did the same test - swim out to a point and take a water taxi back to land and that's what they did. lol

I just got back from Chicago. Here's a bit of Adventureland. I've also been trying to get Sims 4 to recognize all the free content I'm supposed to have for it. No luck. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for it. I also revisited Emerald Valley, another of my Sims 3 games, but it crashed on me earlier. I think most of the original inhabitants aged up to elders and started dying off, and too much was happening at once and the game ran out of memory.

Yes, I always have free will on high, and I have Nraas Story Progression. I used to keep Story Progression on all the time, but for Adventureland I have turned it off and on periodically - I also turn aging on and off as needed - because I'm trying to both build the world and create lore, but also trying to keep things interesting and moving forward. If Story Progression throws me a curve (like Beaumont moving out of his house and leaving it to Korie and her family) I try to adapt to it rather than "fix" it. I feel it makes the game more challenging and interesting. Sometimes I step in and change things if Story Progression does something too out of the scope or too out of character. For instance, sketchy Roger Kadukin was supposed to be hiding out from both law enforcement and the mob, but Story Progression sent him to get a job in the military. I made him quit that job and get a self-employed job (collector I think). Now he's back with the criminals I think. Even with Alexander Beaumont being kicked out of his house he and Korie were still good friends, so I had to send him over to try and lower the relationship. I wanted him to declare her a nemesis, but that option never came up. I guess he's too much of a gentleman. They did get down to acquaintance level, but they were still in the green when the trial started. I'm at mid trial right now, so I'll be posting that too. I need to concoct a formula to help me decide the winner - something involving a combination of the lawyer's skill levels and the relationships among the various people in the courtroom.

Actually, the house Virginia Thompson moved to was a house based on a zodiac sign - I don't remember which one - Capricorn maybe.

 I built them last year, and have used them in some of my other games as well. I originally intended to have this world be all new builds, but I wanted to sort things out and didn't have time to build a bunch of new houses. Hopefully the six or so I added will be enough to appease the residents for awhile. I think I have immigration turned off, so hopefully new people won't be moving in immediately. My Nraas story progression is turned to "snail" speed. This save has a lot of glitches, so I don't know how long I'll keep playing in this one. I've been saving my builds and households so I can reuse them in other games - or start a new save, clear the adventureland map again, and place everything back, but that seems a daunting task. I'd like to wait until a few of the residents have passed away so I can have ghosts with their own lore in the cemetery.

You could still build houses and then save them up to put in a new save file. Sounds like you're already doing that though? lol

Good idea to backup your builds and families. That way you can add them to a new save file later. :)

It's not hard to create a new save file and add your saved houses and families. Load up a new Adventureland and start adding lots and families via Edit Town.

I love the houses in your story!!  I didn't even notice the one house did not have a bathroom until you mentioned something. I took another peek and yep no bathroom. I see a spot between the main bedroom and kitchen that could be used for a small bathroom.

I finished Jack and Daisy's house using the Plumbella challenge, but there was no way I was going to be able to create something that looks Art Deco from a bird's eye view, so I didn't do that part. The after I "finished" it, I realized I really wanted a back door, so Jack and Daisy paid for the door and back steps. Here's what I came up with. This house was supposed to be two levels with only 3 rooms total in the house. I don't know if the last picture, the study, would count as a separate room. I used arches instead of doors, but it might still be considered a fourth room. I could take down the wall and arches and put in an area rug, which would also define the area but ensure it isn't really it's own room. Also I could put that section on a platform with half walls. What do you think? Also, should I count the closet as a separate room the way it stands? I don't think I put in a picture, but it's got the same walls and arches as the study.

I often use post/beam to separate a space. Would that work? I got the beams from TSR. There are several different lengths and they are recolorable. I just looked for them but TSR seems to have updated their site and I can't see well enough to know if I'd be linking to the correct one. Just search for "Ceiling Beams".

Thanks! There are a few things I'd do differently if I were to build the apartments again, but I'm pretty happy with them. I had to bulldoze and replace the west and central lot in order to fit the building there. Otherwise I couldn't the balconies to face the ocean.

Thanks! I'm sure my type of gameplay would be frustrating for players who are really goal oriented and trying to have their sims reach the top of their careers or achieve their lifetime wishes because most won't, but in reality, how many people really get everything they want in life? I like the unpredictability of it. There's a 10x10 challenge out there for "Garden of Eden." That will be in the next episode. I also dropped down my science center I made using your shell challenge awhile back. A lot of sims were wanting to take classes or join careers only available through the science career. I also need to build a theater because a lot of sims want music lessons. I thought about just putting a rabbithole rug in the music room of the school, but the rabbbithole also has the movie theater option. I wish there was a way to separate live performance related options from the movies. I also wish the mobster career was connected to the criminal rabbithole instead of the restaurant rabbithole, but I'll take what I can get. I remodeled the art gallery to have a gift shop and left the old section where I was trying sell artwork and gems empty in case I get a sim (maybe Boyd Medley) who wants to have an exhibition of his own paintings. One thing I like about this type of gameplay is there are so many ways to go with it.

This is the final chapter of Adventureland. The save file is just too corrupted, takes too long to load, crashes too often, etc. I created a clean save to use at a later time. I'm going to focus on Emerald Valley next. It has some of the same characters living different lives, for instance the Whipsnakes are there. I might try to go back in to the old Adventureland file one more time and save Jaron and Natalia Belanger as they have both topped their careers as a magician and an acrobat. They might be fun to place somewhere and have them start their own circus. I'm sorry this glitched on you. Very frustrating when it happens to something you've given hours to. I'm still trying to put mine back together and it's taking hours to fix. Obviously I use way too much CC.

Yeah, I wish I could use more CC than I do, but I'm going to have to wait until I get my fancy desktop gaming computer, hopefully by September so I can try out Life by You. Maybe then I can have more CC and mods for Sims 3 as well. Good luck on getting your stuff loaded back.

One of my sims gave up her reporter career to become a horsewoman. I built her a small ranch but never got much further than that before I had to "take a break".

Yay! I got my new gaming computer. It's been a few days of struggling to get Sims 3 to work on it and all my store content to upload again, but it' looks like I'm in the clear. However, most of my recent gameplay doesn't want to play on this machine. I think the files got corrupted when trying to migrate them over. They still work on the old computer, but I'm going to go with the flow and start some new games as I've had several ideas recently. The Cowboy Life game still works as does an old Barnacle Bay save. I'm sorry to hear some of your save files aren't wanting to work. Are you able to save families and lots and maybe use them in a new Save?

I basically "clean slated" Riverview. I buldozed all the houses and most of the community buildings because I had a specific vision for it.
I had also started with one of the updated versions of Sunset Valley and that's how I met MrsFlynn. She responded to a question I had about it.

Yeah, I thought it was part of the lot build, but I guess Molly had it in her inventory and set it out there herself. She is a daredevil. I'm trying to remember if I've ever seen an electrocution from this situation. I don't think I have, but it would sure make sense.

Just so you all know. EA tampered with the EA App again which messes with the ability to install content on the launcher. If you try to install store content and get the message "no packages found" upon installation go to your EA App settings, and under notifications make sure none are selected for "in game" and also turn off the "in game overlay" option. Someone on my Facebook group came up with the solution, bless her!

Thank you Cheeseweasel for posting that!! I'm reading about that (There are no packages to install) error a lot more often.  I'm happy there's a way to fix the issue. 

I can't say for sure - for Steam players, but for those playing the disc version there is no issues downloading and installing .Sims3Packs.

Yeah, I've learned what I need from this cohort. The next episode will have the results, the cash prizes for each, and their houses built with their cash prizes. I started with 6th place and am working my way up. I also put in a Lunastia Central Government building with a rabbithole rug for city hall, law enforcement, and military because this remote planet will need these things. I haven't put in all the walk-in goodies yet. I think Story Progression is bringing in some sims but they have to be homeless because there are literally not even any empty lots on this planet - I have to add each one as I go. Once I get all six moved into their new homes, I'll start a new cohort of randomized sims and see how they do in the dome.

Someone posted a collab project on my Facebook Sims 3 Builders group. Basically participants download Cape Albacore from the Exchange (it's an empty world). Then they select a lot and notify those managing the project so they can reserve it. Then build your house. The rules say it needs to reflect New England, so the style is a bit restricted to Cape Cod, Federalist, or those types of buildings. Expansion Packs, Stuff Packs, and EA store items are okay, but no CC. I spent today building a house for it. I'm not 100% happy with it. The house is too wide, and the dormers look too small because of that, but I didn't want to fuss with the house plan - especially the upstairs, any further. A least not today. Here's what I came up with.

Some of the Back to Basic windows are CC from Missy Z and maybe replaced with base game windows if that's what was used in this build.

Since it's October, I felt like doing Holloweeny things. There was a build challenge posted with a potentially creepy house, and I remembered my vampire Terrence Bloodston whom I have had in a few games, the last one being Emerald Valley, where he outlived a wife and took a mistress whom he turned. I'm going to assume over the years, they grew apart and he has moved on to this house in Barnacle Bay (same save as the one with Sandi (French) Butler, but I turned off aging so I could play the Bloodston household for awhile. I'm going to put together a blog post, but thought I'd put a few pictures here. The first one is the challenge house exterior. There were floorplans too, but those quickly went out the window as I was building. I was going for something somewhat moody and whimsical but not gloomy or too dark. Terrence isn't an evil vampire but a rather endearing and and quirky one. His lifetime wish is to be a master of seduction. (I went back and tiled the ceilings after some of these pictures were taken, so they aren't white anymore.

Thanks! The upper level deck was the result of my struggles with roofing the porch and finally giving up. This was as close as I could get with it, and it didn't meet the roof correctly. When I extended it one more tile, the slope was too steep and the roof looked slapped-together. So I put the flat roof and half wall.

Roofs are my nemesis. MrsFlynn is right. Using a hip roof can solve that problem of that funny gable end. I managed to get it to tie in once after a lot of fidding around but the house wasn't right and I started it over but I could never managed to do that again.

Many of my houses have a wrap-around porch so after making the porch base and adding posts, I place a hip roof over the entire first level.

I think I'm the only one posting a story at this point. It seems I read a post about someone else playing in the world too, but I could be wrong. I know some are "taking tours" of the new lots, but I don't know how much they are actually playing at this time. I didn't intend to start playing already but I just get sucked in when I put a sim in to playtest a lot.

The placement of the bathroom is a hard call. I'm not sure where else to place one on the main floor unless you do some renovating and maybe put the bathroom between the kitchen and diningroom ?

Do you have a version of the house that is not furnished that we might be able to test that idea out with?

I like the clapboard/singe combo as well. I use it frequently. I also think the bathroom is fine where it is but I think what I might have done is pull that bathroom wall out a bit to place the door behind the stairs rather than from the livingroom.

I'll take a look and see about putting an entrance to the bathroom behind the stairs. That seems a lot more logical.  Here's the zip file for the new version. Another thing that is bothering me is the boathouse is a lot further out in the water than in the first version making the dock unnecessarily long. I'm thinking of moving it closer in my own version since the boathouse is really easy to build.

Edit to Add: Deleted the empty folder.

I found your bookstore. I guess the rabbithole rug didn't transfer over - I found it under the other rug, but it was just "normal" so I replaced it with the another rabbithole rug. It was showing as a consignment store because the bookstore rug wasn't working. There were some CC displays (I assume book displays) that had bizarre replacements, but I fixed it up. I'll post some more pictures of the work I've done in a few days.

I replaced the windows in the library. Because they were CC they didn't transfer over.
Here are some inside shots of the library. In addition to the regular stacks, there a computer center and a kid's section as well as an office and storage room. I might end up putting a bathroom up in the storage room area. Just had a guy almost wet himself because it was a long way down to the bathrrom downstairs. I could almost hear him go "Ahhhhhh...." :D

BTW, I don't know if you're aware of the story behind these buildings. They're from an actual street in Quebec City. I like to collect street art when I'm traveling and I not only walked this street (the library is actually a church) but I bought a painting of the street. That's why the first shop I put into that complex was an art shop.

There's also a story behind the book store.
I was reading a series of books by Louise Penny. It was set in a fictitious location in Quebec and was about a police inspector who investigated murders in this tiny village. The cast of characters is wonderfu and I have made a few sims based on those characters.
The book store is featured predominately along with the bistro and bed & breakfast.
The proprietor of the store is Myrna Landry. She's one of my Sims.

At one point I was trying to create the village of Three Pines which is basically a series of shops in a rowhouse setting which included the book store.

They made a tv series about it and this is the store in the tv show.

Here's my latest build for Cape Albacore: the elixir and consignment store. The lot was pretty big, so I added a pet shop and florist for good measure. This is what similar to how I plan to furnish the Riverview Walk area in Lapaige's version of Riverview. I enjoyed The Good Witch TV series, so I used Bell, Book and Candle and Abigail's as inspiration.

Sounds to me like Rocco was ggetting cold feet about the whole wedding thing.

You were exactly right. The Tribune building was meant to replace Doo Peas with a business/journalism rabbit hole rug.
The upstairs was designed as an entertainment venue.

I encountered some routing errors with the Tribune building, so I made some adjustments to make everything accessible. It's weird - some of the upper floors were having problems due to items on the floors below them "blocking" access. I've never encountered that before, but I figured it out and worked around it. Also, I got the blue building on the waterfront done. It was pretty much empty, so I guessed what would go in each space. It was tagged as a consignment store, so I included the consignment store and anything I thought wouldn't interfere with that. Later I saw Lapaige's description and it was rather different from what I put in there, I'd be curious to see the original vision. I'll put the waterfront building in a separate post.

Here's the Tribune. I made a few changes from these pictures, putting more decor in the roof-top coffee shop, and reversing the 2nd floor conference room and moving the door so it wasn't blocked by the cubicles on the floor below. 
Ground floor: the journalism floor. Cubicles for reporters, a boss' office, conference room, and breakroom.
2nd floor: bathrooms, another conference room, a small architects' firm, and one empty office.
3rd floor: wedding/private events venue
4th floor: The Rooftop Coffee Shoppe

Here's the Riverwalk II lot.

Bottom floor, left to right, up then down.

Pablo's Pizza, Quirky's Consignment Store, common area for upstairs apartments, Sudz Laundromat, Joltz Coffee House. I noticed the upstairs originally was supposed to be a hotel, but I was afraid sims couldn't use any part of the lot unless they checked in. I left the apartments empty so random sims didn't go up there and sleep or watch TV. I might try testing out having a tiny residential lot with mailbox and trash can beside the lot so I can have a resident go there when "going home" collect their mail, and then go to the apartment in the commercial building. I've been wanting to try that for a long time to see if I could make it work. I don't think any of the venues I put in actually close (as in kicking sims off the lot), so it just might work.

Not having played the commercial builds at all, I had no idea what would work and what wouldn't. I was just building for the fun of it. :D

The ground floor of the hotel consisted of the apothecary in the small separate building on the end.
Going right to left was the hotel lobby, a flower shop, a chocolate shop and a wine shop. Convenient for a hotel rendezvous, don't you think?

 ;D I didn't realize it was a remake from that far back! Thanks for sharing the video. The people of Riverview are the slow-dancingest sims I've come across. It doesn't matter what kind of music is playing, they just grab the nearest Sim and pull them close, gaze into their eyes, and no one gets jealous! It's kind of like how the sims of Cape Albacore actually use the swimming pools during pool parties rather than standing around in an upstairs bedroom watching people play musical instruments.

A peek at Vivaland Dream Home - the build/buy portion of the upcoming game. It's free on Steam. Here's what I built. I forgot to take the grid off when doing the screenshots. There's a way to do it in game, but I didn't know that at the time. Shelves and cupboards are empty you have to place your own clutter. The walls don't seem to come down, so sometimes it's hard to see what I'm doing. There are several styles of furnishings available, but no where near what Sims 3 has - even if you don't count the vast amounts of Sims 3 CC that's available. It has a color wheel, and items can be sized up - to a certain point, but I wish they could be sized up larger. Most of the rugs available have "rumples" in them. I could see myself tripping on them and falling and breaking a hip or something IRL. I'm not OCD, but they really bugged me.  ;D They offer curved walls, but you can't put doors of windows on them - at least not yet.

I'm thinking the reason why the money added to the business account dwindles is because of the cost of restocking and or other business expenses.

There's not many in-depth notes on the mod, so that's just my guess and from what I've experienced.

I too see +20 pop on the screen.  Not sure what that's from other than random purchases Sims are making. I check from time to time throughout the day to see what needs to be restocked and sometimes see this or that needs to be restocked.

You can set Annie and Bea up to be a manager by clicking on them > Change Role and make them a Manager. Then they can set prices and restock and even set things up for sale.

-- Not sure how the value system works. After I set things up for sale I usually lower their price by half or more. Like for example a painting from buy mode that is a §1000 is marked down to §100.

I was afraid that "hiring" Annie and Bea would dwindle the account, so I haven't. I might try it and see. I might at least do that for Annie since she could sell her things with Cyrus' things. I might even move the "storefront" to her lot. I don't think the dwindling is a restocking fee because it happened more often than the selling of the items occurred, and in my case, I'm not restocking because I'm making Cyprus make more when the first ones are sold. I think with the next batch of inventory I'll try keeping the price at the suggested amount and see if I still get complaints about the prices.  I might look at some videos about the mod and see if it explains what the +20 is about.  I noticed that the flying fighters that sold at the consignment store (finally) sold for more than I was asking at the lot. I was asking $100 for the claw dipper and the flying fighters, and the buyers seemed to be gravitating to the cheaper items. The still pictures didn't capture this, but the flyers and claw dippers were moving, and it looked really cool.

I haven't tested using two OFB registers on the lot. So please do report on if it works or not?

I haven't tested selling paintings sitting on an easel, other than they are sell-able.

However, it seems like you found - each painting or any item for that matter would need to manually noted as sold, deleted and replaced with a new painting/item, because the game doesn't rotate sell-able items.

Got a chance to play-test having two O4B registers in my test business and they both had the same options. I'm thinking it might be because we're only allowed one business per lot and so that means 1 register per lot?

I momentarily forgot about that, but yes, I need to make sure there's room for a greenhouse too. I did an all seasons challenge once, and having a greenhouse was a life-saver for my sims because they basically had to live off the land for an entire "year" before building a house. That should be Franks first priority when he gets some money for building because it's already half way through summer.

The horse eating an ice cream cone comes from the TV show "Resident Alien." It's hilarious - about an alien whose assignment is to destroy the world, but ends up stranded in a small mountain town and learns to understand humans. One of the women of the town said he kissed like a horse eating an ice cream cone. It's a favorite phrase of my husband's and mine, so I just had to steal it when I saw the kissing booth interactions. I'm glad you got a kick out of it.

Great story. My Taylor is very dull by comparison. I guess I'm too busy putting more bells and whistles into the game than actually playing it. I'll have to check in with her to see if there's anything to Bender's apparent interest.

The Roaring Heights public library is hideous! It's empty, drab, depressing . . . not a place anyone in their right mind would want to hang out. I remodeled some of it, and even added a couple additional shops, but this place is so big! I'm thinking I'll throw in some tents, sleeping bags, garbage beds, and coolers for the homeless on the upper floors because it looks like the kind of place they might squat. The first time Gloria went there to do her homework she was the only one there and it was really creepy. After I remodeled the lower levels, people started showing up. Still she gravitated to the top floor to do her homework.

Inzoi is the new life simulator game made by Krafton, a Korean company. There's a lot of hype about it lately. It's due to be released later this year. Several YouTubers were given the game in it's current state and have made videos about the character creator features (awesome), gameplay (awesome and immersive), and build buy (needs work.) Krafton has just released a free character creator on Steam for anyone to play with.

There's one called Vivaland in development that released a build/buy component to play with. Paralives is due to come out sometime next year, and that's one I'm really excited about. Project Rene (often referred to as Sims5) is in the works, but it doesn't look like my kind of game - it's going to be more of a "phone game" where you can play it on phones, computers, tablets, etc., so I don't think it can be that deep. Sims 4 is just flat-out broken at this point from what I've seen. I'll never do away with Sims 3, but I sometimes wonder if all the things available online - the worlds, store content, etc. might someday be closed down and inaccessible. Thankfully, I have most of the game on discs, so they can't take that away. InZoi is looking better than I expected after watching some of the YouTubers play through it a bit, but the company is pretty tight-lipped about the monetization structure they are going to use, so it might be a pretty expensive game to play.

I feel the same way about "Project Rene/Sims 5" Not too impressed with it. Besides if they treat it like they're treating Sims 4 - Then that's a serious pass. I too feel Sims 4 is sadly broken as well.

I read awhile back, if/when EA closes the Sims 3 Store they'll give everyone a heads up. So that we can download the store files for backup or whatnot.

I too am curious if the Sims 3 store files will be usable if/when they close the store.  I suppose it depends on if they try to disable the Sims 3 launcher or not. If that's even possible for those of us that have the 1.67 install / disc based game.

The other game I was talking about is called New Life. I considered it for a while but liked S3 better. I've never tried S4 so I can't comment. Based on everything I've heard, I'm not remotely interested.
I'll stick with S3 as long as it's available. I don't have any of the disc since I d/l'd it from Steam.

I always enjoy how you interpret the thought bubbles. Since I don't play with story progression I haven't developed that skill. :D
I also don't have the patience to wait until they get enough money to buy a piece of furniture. I'll evict the household and put furniture, etc in with Edit Town then move them back in. I'll also do that if a bed isn'tgiving them the best ight's sleep and they need a new bed or something else needs to be changed. I like that the game doesn't demand that something needs to be done "next". I've played other games where you have to do "this" before you can do "that".
I think since my stroke I have to keep things simple.

I saw some videos of Tiny Glade and had to try it. It's very cozy. You basically "doodle" tiny castles and villages and such. You can pet the sheep and ducks and they make cute little sounds. All the sound effects are so satisfying. Too bad the insides can't be furnished. After you build your scene, you can roam around and take pictures. Here are some I've done.

Nicely done. I'm having trouble getting my head back in the game. I'm working on some Diamond Painting now (Google if you don't know what it is). That doesn't require a lot of thought but it does give my poor eyes a workout.

I'm sure you're aware, but just in case you aren't, I always just place a regular rug over the ugly rabbithole rugs. They still work.

If I were Danica I'd take myself on a vacation to a warm place with palm trees, white sand and blue water. Maybe a nice resort that serves fancy fruity drinks with little paper umbrellas served by cute pool boys. Those college bozos aren't worth the effort.  Or, she should just swear off men for a while. :D

Yeah, those college boys are just like those I encountered in college. When boys get away from their mommas, they go a little nuts for a few years. I don't think they're worth considering until they are at least 25 years old. She's close to having her degree, so I'll send her for one more term. Then a nice vacation will be well-deserved. I'll be putting together another episode soon. I think she may eventually use her PE degree and become a firefighter.

I think I'm almost done with setting up the town of Desert Mountains. I'm almost done with the other farm I wanted to build; I redid the floorplan of the Lodge and redecorated some areas (there were some "what was I thinking?" moments; and I decided to build a small church. I intended it to be a white clapboard chapel, but it insisted on being a stone Spanish style church, so I let it.

New Story: Sagehen Mesa. This is a rename of Desert Mountains and started from the beginning, so some things are different from my playtest of Desert Mountains. Also, I have storylines in mind for the families I placed in the save file, but they are on high free will and tend to run amok. For instance, Hannah Baum is supposed to be a first-year teacher living with her grandmother and helping her grandmother out. However, when I switched to another family and came back to her, she had taken up with an inappropriate old man who was one of her grandmother's classmates, and she quit her job and joined the criminal career. I straightened her out and then switched to another family, and she had quit her job and joined the athletic career. So I again made her switch back to teaching. Toward the end of this episode, the screenshots become scarce because I was writing myself out of a corner and didn't have the screenshots to illustrate that section. Oh well.

I considered wonderpetal, but that makes a person smart and learn faster for a limited amount of time. I think buzzberry makes sims wide awake and maybe a little hyper. I guess that's kind of the opposite of marijuana, but it's what I have to work with.

Ben is inappropriate, a slob, a party animal, an angler, and athletic.

Josie is eco-friendly, a green thumb, a schmoozer, irresistible, and artistic. (They don't have one trait in common.)

He and Josie have known each other since they were kids in school.

She chose to marry Joe over either of the Culpepper boys, though both men are fond of her and find her attractive even now. (Chuck however has found someone else, and she's a good fit. I kind of pictured Josie and Chuck together if she had to get together with anyone, but he's moved on.)

Ben was inappropriately pursuing Josie's granddaughter Hannah, making unwanted romantic overtures to her. He was pressured by the school board to retire due to being an HR nightmare.

For some explicable reason, Story Progression is insistent that Josie needs a man in her life and he's the only male elder available. I could drop a few more eligible bachelors into the game, but it still wouldn't explain why someone like Josie (at least how I picture her) would even consider a romantic relationship with such a guy. Friendship maybe, but not romance.

It's perplexing, but I'm determined to make sense of the pairing somehow rather than cheat it away. I'm thinking that Ben has pulled her under his influence through some nefarious means, and I may need to add a dashing silver-haired eco-friendly gardener to the mix to rescue her.

Josie could go to Egypt to research tombs or Ben could go to  "Gay Paree" to flirt with the medemoiselles and gather artifacts for the school.
The current status of my brain is like a large plate of spahgetti...strands going every which way. :D I don't even remember where I'm at with my own game. I think I'm just checking on all the families in turn to see what they're up to.
