This is kind of a shell challenge, but a visual of the shell is provided in a cartoon drawing. I thought it was really cute and am going to try to recreate in in Sims. Come build with me.
-
I will :)
-
Great! At first glance, I thought the bottom of the building was a garage, but the door doesn't look right for that, so I'm going to make that part of the living area. I don't see any windows at the bottom, so I'm going to assume they are around back. Do you have any idea what the cylindrical barrel looking thing on the upper level is supposed to be? I'm stumped. I think the person living here will have a cat, but I don't think it will be sleeping on the roof.
-
That doesn't look like a garage to me either. The barrel looks like maybe a water collector? The saucer type thing could be a satellite/tv antenna.
It looks like there is a tree ? on the 2nd floor? I am not entirely sure we can do that in Sims 3??
Don't forget to share build progress photos!! lol :)
-
Here is my take on it. Do you need more pictures of the inside?

Oooh yes more photos please!! :)
Another question came to mind, seeing Nindigo's build. Are all the rooms connected by a staircase/ladder so Sims can use them or is this house a just for looks? Or is that left up to us? I don't usually build for looks, I build for use/play.
-
Alright. I put in some basic furniture. The pictures should be showing how I managed rooms and access to the different levels.

You did such a wonderful job Nindigo!! I love the house!! Thank you for sharing more photos!! :)
-
Thank you, MrsFlynn. Think I'm going to participate in more building challenges. The practice won't hurt. Well, it probably actually will (lol), but you know what I mean ;)
-
Sounds good!! I get what you mean. :)
Here's what I have for the build so far:

I'm building it with the thought of use/play and also the game wouldn't allow adding the door and stairs to 1 square. I usually have to put 2 squares if a door is going to be close to a staircase.
I love the color green I chose and the lighter wood color, but am thinking of switching it around. Still not sure yet. As you can tell it's only the outside I've done. lol I figured I'd get the outside done first and then see what I can do with the inside.
-
That looks downright beautiful, MrsFlynn. Can I grab it?
And yeah, had to use the 'MoveObjects On' cheat to place the door with one tile in front of it, because I was stubborn. I also considered building my version of the house at larger scale for the sake of better functionality.
Which town are you building in, by the way?
-
Hmm.. Maybe. lol I think I saved the shell as a .package file. I'll need to check that.
I definitely want to make a larger-scale version of this building for better function and play. Great idea!!
I'm building the house using Builder's Island - Building on a 20x20 lot
(Bigger) Builder's Island
https://modthesims.info/d/546927/bigger-builder-s-island-updated.html
And using Velocitygrass Any Sized lots the 2014 version. - may not be totally necessary, but like having the option when building.
Velocitygrass - Add Any Lot Size (https://jadekitten.net/mfhot/index.php?topic=393.msg4608#msg4608) It was removed for some reason from ModtheSims.
I'm interested in seeing the larger-scaled version of the build Nindigo. :)
-
Here's "Chip" finished.

There's not a whole lot of room, or should I say as much as I would like for a house of this size, so I will be working on a larger-scale version. :)
-
Here's my more playable floorplan. I still wanted to keep it mostly the same, but add a little something to it, plus a little more bathroom space. lol

I am really happy with how it turned out. :)

I love your houses. Like Mrs. Flynn, I want my houses to be functional, so mine's a little bigger than the one in the picture. I couldn't figure out what that barrel thingy was on the upper deck, so I made it a juice keg. In place of the broken satellite dish, I provide one of those portable broadcasting stations. I wish there was a partial wall option that was like a quarter-wall. The planter on the upper deck was the closest thing I found, and I'm considering trying to make to go most of the way around.
I completed the outside and the main living area (putting in a washing machine to make the clothesline make sense.) I still need to playtest that clothesline. I moved Sally Hardy, one of the Adventurland explorers the world came with, into the house. She was a little short on funds, so her sugar-daddy Alexander Beaumont II, gave her 5000 simoleons to help her purchase the place. She still ran out of funds before she could put in a full bathroom, but she has a half bath. She wants to become a lifeguard, so I developed the beach across the street so she could get a job there. I also provided some outdoor showers for the beach goers, to shower the sand off, so she can use those until she can earn enough money to build her full bathroom. I like my sims to struggle a bit. I'll post more pictures next time I'm in game.
-
I forgot all about those half-opened windows and the fencing that Mrs. Flynn used. Those look nice! I was also working from a gray-scale print out, so I forgot the sticky out part was green. I might go back and change that. I was also thinking of using an archway on that second floor like Nindigo did, but I wanted to include the clothesline, and I think the arches are less friendly than doors for placing objects near them.
-
You did a great job Cheeseweasel!! I grabbed a copy of the screenshot you shared and saved it to my desktop.
I thought of a use of the shell I made of this build. It would be perfect for the consignment shop. lol Main floor could have the consignment register and the upstairs could have the elixir register.
-
This would make a great consignment shop. I was also thinking with the two entry doors on two levels that it could be apartments - one on the ground level and one on the upper two levels. They would be small apartments, but it would be doable. Here's some pictures of the inside of Sally's house. Poor Sally apparently has a drinking problem. When I switched to her at the very beginning, she was "super-juiced" and that moodlet hung around for two days. Anytime there's a keg on the lot, she's there with her red Solo cup. Since there's one on her small lot, that seems to be all that she does: drink and clean the house, unless I redirect her. I might have to work that into her storyline and have consequences like loss of a job or have Lord Beaumont break up with her because of it.

Apartments that's a great idea!! I'd say it's very doable, specially with the way we all resized our builds abit.
Love the photos!! I love the wall hanging of the house. Great touch!!
-
So I'm looking through the thread looking at all the lovely house photos.... when I realize I haven't posted my furnished build photos. *Blush*
Here they are:

Thinking this house would fit well in Monte Vista I placed it there and took some screenshots. They look okay, but seem a little dark, but I like the afternoon sun look. lol
I've wanted to share this house since I finished it, and wasn't able to at the time. So now so here's Alba (https://jadekitten.net/mfhot/index.php?topic=510.msg6617#msg6617).

Very nice! I love your interpretation.

Thank you!! :)
