It's been awhile since we did a house challenge together. Here's a new randomizer I found. I'm going to give this a shot.
Style: Post Modern
Lot size:20 x 30
Budget: 35,000 simoleons
# of rooms: 5
One room must be 7x7
Basement: yes
Attic : no
Color scheme - hexcodes: 595643, 4e6b66, ed834e, ebcc6e, and ebe1c5
Here's the randomizer in case you want to try something different. https://perchance.org/cs-s3buildgen (https://perchance.org/cs-s3buildgen)

Edited to add the info below, so it's all together.

More notes on the color theme of the challenge. This includes the link to the site with information and swatch of the color along with name of color as typed below. I jumped in-game to get some screenshots. -- Note: Colors may look differently using different wall textures. Click images to see larger view.

Here's what I came up with for the challenge. I went about $500 over budget due mostly to the landscaping. I ran out of money before I could furnish the basement. It looks a little goofy, but it's tame compared to all the images I saw as examples of Post Modern. Apparently Post Modern features include curved forms, decorative elements, asymmetry, bright colors/colorful, and eclectic.

You did a wonderful with the house you built!! :)
If I'm understanding correctly, post modern homes can look something like this?
Angelic House (https://jadekitten.net/mfhot/index.php?topic=77.msg335#msg335) ~ Residential Lot (30x30)
More trying to get confirmation. lol
-
Yes, I'd say that one qualifies. Very nice looking house. It looks like something a person would actually live in Some of the images I Googled were so wacky I wondered what they were thinking.
-
Thank you!! A friend showed me a screenshot of a house and asked me to build a house with it. So that's what came of it. lol
I searched on the term last night too and was like what?! The buildings I saw definitely could be considered art pieces.
-
I agree with the whacky! You did well considering the limited examples showing up in Google.
It's very far removed from what I thought it might be and it's very far removed from my typical stiyle. :D
It might take me a while to get up to speed. I have no clue at this moment and I might just wing it. ::) (I only had about 4 hours sleep last night so I'm slower than usual today).
-
Color question. Are the last 3 hexcodes a very similar color?
I was going to cheat and use a ouse I already had but everything is way over the price range. :D
-
Maybe?
Thank you for asking about that though I wanted to note what the colors were to give a better idea of the color theme.

-
Thanks. I was having trouble reading the code but the last 3 seemed to be all the same orange.
-
I was thinking something similar. That's another reason I wanted to get notes on the colors.

You're welcome!! I like being able to see the different colors like that. Better visualization. :)

Thank you!!

Those colors look better. The other ones seemed gloomy and didn't seem to fit the definition regarding brighter colors.

Here's what I came up with for the challenge.
I feel I somewhat failed, 1. I forgot to add a basement during the actual build process. *Shakes Head* 2. Most of the hex numbers maybe all ? changed slightly when I went to copy say the window color to the next window or the door color to the next door. It drove me bonkers. But I really like what I came up with!! :)

That's cute. I forgot all about it. I have to go out tomorrow and get a couple of bottles of wine for my trip. Apparently the liquor stores in Manitoba are on strike. :D
-
Pretty house, Mrs. Flynn. Mine went about $500 over budget, and the basement was still empty.
-
Ack! Basement! I forgot about the basement!
I'm trying to get an orange door but when I put the code in, it turns orange for a second then switches to bright blue. :::sigh:::
False alarm. Nevermind.
Please ignore the cussing coming from the Pacific Northwest. (North of the border). Getting Lots of drag, lag and bounce and I've hardly done anything.
-
I've made a good start (after I finally got going) but I'm done for now. I forgot to set my timer. :D
-
Thank you!! :)
That's okay, at least you have a basement? lol I feel totally embarrassed - the challenge allows for a basement and I (who -loves- basements) forgot to add one in. *Sigh*

You could always use the "dig-out" method like I did. You just have to move all your furniture out to the yard and put it back and replace the floors when you're done.
Thank you!! :)

Busy morning trying to get ready for my trip tomorrow. i wantbto get my house gfinished today because I refuse to take my laptop with me. if i were stayinhg 0n my own in a hotel I would but I'm stayingwith friends so I have to be sociable. ;D
-
I'm already in trouble. I only have the bathroom in and I'm at 22,000. :P
I'm not going to finish today like I wanted to. I have to start over. As usual, I've made everything way too big. I'll do what I can in the next hour or so but it won't be complete.
I tried but I just don't thave the energy. I'll be back on the 28th.
-
Thank you for the dig-out basement tip. I did think of that. I didn't do that for the reason of I would have had to basically tear down the whole house and replan the layout to be more basement staircase friendly.
I didn't want to do that because I really like how the layout and whole house turned out too much to do that.

All you need to do is move your decor outside. You don't need to change anything about your house. J
3 stair sets, each one lower than the last.
Level terrain at the lowest level and drag it over your house
decide where you want your stairs and remove 86 floor squares then place your stairs.
Go down to the basement leve and there will be a wall around your stairs. Repeatedly delete each section of this wall until it's pushed back to where the foundation slants. Tthis is your new inside wall.
Go back outside and delete the 3 stair units and bring up the level ofthe terrain around your house staying 1 square away. This
leaves a gap around your house but you can place windows in the gap or plant flowers/shrubs.
Replace your decor and the floor.
Try it on a save. It just takes minutes. If you get a "can't delete" message, that means there is somthing on the level above. Even a hanging light will give that message. I will be on the road or in the air a good part of tomorrow and I won't have my laptop but I'm planning on taking my tablet. I think I can access "Tacky" on it. I'm sure I did it before.
I suggest you try it several times until you get comfortable with it. It's so easy.
-
I actually would need to re-plan the layout of the house because I would need to plan where to add my staircase down to the basement, since I didn't do that in the first place.
I've actually tried the dig-out method a few different times with pretty good results.
I love the layout as is that I don't want to mess with it. :)
-
I'm trying to work on my "Po-Mo house but I can't remember what I was doing with it. :D Good grief.
-
I took a copy of the shell of the house and rebuilt it to allow for a basement. Click images for larger view.

It does have a different personality and vibe about it, so I thought about giving it a different name. I settled on giving it the name of Lumi2 because the inspiration for it was it's original build and it looks similar.
I really like the basement. All in all I think it came out pretty well. Kind of surprising, it came under budget, but that's because none of the basement is furnished.

Finally. Squeezed in just under budget but of course it's not as decorated or landscaped as I'd like it to be.
The biggest challenge for me was to do it without CC. :D
