I love your starting build!! :)  Definitely one to keep for later, thank you for the numbers. :)

I ended up started over a few different times today.  I think I am starting to get somewhere. lol

Floorplan: 20 wide by 25 front to back of lot.

Front of house:

Starting build on a 30x30 on builder's island for easier building.

I've lost count of how many times I've started over with this thing. I've been working at it for at least the last 3 days, even before you issued the challenge.  I think I'm finally getting what I want.
For reasons which will become evident later, I have to build mine on site. Normally I build on Builder's Island.

Edited to add: I'm building a shareable one on Builder's Island. I realized the one I'm building in PI wouldn't be shareable. They will  be basically the same. I also realize how big it is but I was building it based on the book. These folks are veary wealthy.
The house can be scaled back and still have plenty of room.

Disregard previous layout. I seem to have made some modifications and not necessarily on purpose.  ::) Starting over.

And one more thing. The original layout included patio/porch space. I obviously rushed to post it before I was finished with it.

Wanted to share progress screenshots of my build -

I have some plants scattered in the yard on the left side. Trying to figure out what to keep and what to get rid of. The roofline is tall enough for some kind of small room in the attic. But not quite sure what to do with it.

The house has CC windows and some doors -

It also has CC fencing -

On the tropical house challenge, is there a certain shell we need to use or is it just the rules listed (3 bedrooms, 2 baths, no bigger than 40x40 etc.)?
Title: Re: Build Challenge ~ Livin' in the Tropics
Post by: MrsFlynn on January 07, 2024, 07:31:57 AM
No shell. Just free-build a house, according to the rules stated here (https://jadekitten.net/mfhot/index.php?topic=572.msg7298#msg7298).  (3 bedrooms, 2 baths, no bigger than 40x40, etc.)

Thank you for the question!! :)

Landscaping done!!

I went kitchen/lighting hunting this morning and found some cute stuff.

Looking at possibly this set for kitchen:

Looking through some of Dots stuff for lighting.

I -really- like this kitchen and the rest of the coastal set.

Mine's wanting to be a Mediterranean style with a lot of red, orange and yellow in the interior. I guess I've built a lot using greens and blues, and grays for Cape Albacore and am ready for something different. I'll post WIP pictures soon.

Here's what I have pictures of so far. I'm working on the upstairs now. I was fixing up Alberto's room and thought since he lived on coast, he might enjoy a boat bed. Then I saw the name of the bed: "I'm in a boat," and remembered his background. Rather than consider to potential trauma that might cause him, I had an onery streak and made his entire room boat and water themed.   ;D

Oh my gosh! I didn't realize you were taking my story into consideration. Thank you!  I hadn't even thought of his trauma. In fact, I've created his family and one of his traits is that he loves to swim.
Now having said that, in the books he's become very proficient in not only operating the boats but has become an
 nexpert diver.

One day he was with his family, including his dog Finn, a golden lab. They were playing aroud in fairly shallow water when suddenly Finn took off, leaping over Alberto to attack a shark that was looking for a little Alberto snack. Finn saved Alberto's life but not without suffering some injuries of his own. He did recover and simply died of old age. There are 27 books in this series. :D

I love how your house is coming along Cheeseweasel!!

I'm sorry I am not familiar with the Lapaige's story or the books.

I was inspired by a house Lapaige recently shared. :)

I like the CC windows/doors I'm using on the house, however I decided that I wanted to make a semi-no-CC version of the house build.

To get the "look" of the house, the cc-fencing is required.

Matching Fences TI
https://www.thesimsresource.com/downloads/details/category/sims3-objects-buildmode-fencesgates/title/matching-fences-ti/id/1227249/

With that done, I feel I can now get back to going through what cc files I have for the kitchen and livingroom!!

That's quite Med looking, Cheesie. You were thinking of Ibiza, I'm sure. :D

MrsFlynn, Alberto's story is on the Porch just after I mentioned that I had picked up Island Paradise. But since I'm doing the whole family now I've decided to add a little bit of a backstory for them for a little perspective.

Ah okay, I was able to find the story about the family and that they rescued Alberto.  I seem to have missed that part (where the rescued Alberto)

I just remember the part where you mentioned the house you shared screenshots of the Bahama Breeze house, was too small and that you needed something bigger because the teenage daughter wouldn't want to share a bedroom with her 8 yr old brother.

Thank you for the compliment!! :)

I went to check my screenshots again... I haven't shared inside screenshots. *Blush* I've been stuck. I want to add a big ceiling fan in the livingroom and can't find on just yet.

Plus, not quite sure I'm satisfied with the kitchen either. lol  Here's what I have so far!!

Not sure I like the layout and flooring. I keep seeing an L shaped kitchen for this house in my mind's eye. So I might be remodeling the kitchen.... again.

I'm still working on my house. I was stuck in the furnishing/decorating part. Went back to working with my base game house, using what's in the game and seem to be having better luck with it. No screenshots, cause uh... my dog ate them? hehehehe *Blush*

A lesson of don't be cleaning out your Sims 3 folder when really tired, screenshots will be deleted. *Smacking Forehead*

Was that your dog here eating mine?  :o

I'm just in the decorating stage now because I had a heck of a time putting my house together. I started over several times because I just couldn't make it work. I'm still not pleased with the design but I'm busy filling it up with CC :D I also had to keep rebuilding the McDermitt family because I kept losing them. So weird. I had fun recreating the characters as I saw them in my mind.

I have finished the book series though, or at least as far as it goes. Book 27 will be released in a couple of months.

I've started another series - same type- thriller and also set in the Florida Keys. There are over 60 books in that series but I think they're short reads. I don't think the first one is over 200 pages. I like a chunky book with lots of pages but I look at this series as one huge book. I'm expecting a lot of repition because how many plot twists can you have to cover over 60 books.

Thank you!! It was inspired by one of your houses. :)

Hmm.. Maybe if you've got room, make a bedroom in the attic with an added all-in-one bathroom as well?
Title: Re: Build Challenge ~ Livin' in the Tropics
Post by: Lapaige46 on January 24, 2024, 01:00:09 AM
It's not really geared for attic space because I've kept the roofline low. The house itself is fine but the kids' bedrooms are pretty tiny. Mind you, they have the world's best playground at their doorstep so they don't need to sped a lot of time in their rooms.
Before I finish furnishing it I might see if I can make some adjustments without messing up the roof too badly. ... or not. :D

I am done! This was pretty ambitious for me due to vision issues (the thumbnails are soooo small!), and a new medication (fatigue inducing), so it was a bit of a struggle. Not my best effort but this is my first real build since my stroke.
But I'm looking forward to moving my McDermitt family in and see how they like it.
In the book series this is based on, the house is built on stilts so I went with that.
