Down on the Ranch
« on: July 18, 2021, 06:49:33 PM »
It's a start. I had no idea what time it was. No wonder I'm hungry. I was getting very annoyed with the lagging and wildly swinging camera. I shut down repeatedly, cleared everything I could clear, etc, and it still didn't help.

Oh well. Time to make some dinner.

You did a wonderful job with your farm!! :)

The lag I've experienced isn't as bad as it was yesterday or the day before, but I'm still trying to go through my custom content to find my happy medium. lol

I don't know if clearing the files out of the Thumbnail folder helps or not.

Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Thumbnails

It has for me, specially since I've been adding and removing custom content. Even with adding/removing CC I was seeing things previously installed. Even with removing the cache files in the main Sims 3 folder.

I've also cleared out the files that were in the DCCache folder. I do not have anything installed right now via the launcher. All the CC files I am using are in .package format.

If you have any store or custom content installed via the launcher, removing the files in the DCCache folder will remove them and you will need to reinstall your store and custom content again.

If you're wanting to try any of the above, please backup your Sims 3 folder to the desktop before trying. Just in case you remove something by accident you get get it back.

I am not sure what to do about the swinging camera. There are some lots that the game does that with, I'm not sure why. I've learned which ones they are and don't build or use those lots.

I didn't think to clear out the thumbnails but my DCCache is always empty except for the ccmerged file. I am still not able to install my store content. I even tried swapping out the ccmerged file in case that was the issue but that didn't help at all. I tried again today to d/l it but no luck.

The swinging camera is a royal pain. I wonder if it has something to do with the size of the lot. This is on a pretty large lot. The only way my sim is going to be able to live on it is with the "freerealestate" cheat. :D I don't like using those kinds of cheats because it's ... well ... cheating. :D, but I've done it a few times now with some of my sims. The only reason David and Ashley were able to afford their big green house is because they both had lots of money and I combined their households. They still have lots.

I'll probably be taking a couple of days off. I'm getting my other eye done tomorrow so we'll see how it goes. My vision could be impaired for a few days but I hope not. If I can't read, I'll go bonkers.

The ccmerged file is in the DCBackup folder.
\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\DCBackup

The folder I was talking about - DCCache
\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\DCCache

is where the store content and custom content (that are in .sims3pack format) gets installed when you install files via the launcher and can be viewed via installed content tab in the launcher.

Which ccmerged file were you trying to download?  If you have a link for it I can try to download it for you?

I've noticed I get lag on bigger lots. Specially 60x60, but that's because of their size. If I'm careful I don't get too much feedback from the camera.

The camera swing for me is bad when I try to work with a lot of whatever size in certain areas of the map.

I have read about a mod that can help stabilize the camera, but I'm not able to find it at the moment.

Hope your appointment goes well!! :)

Not sure if this is the camera mod I was thinking of. But wanted to note it just in case.

When I said DCCache, I meant DCBackup.  ::) I replaced the ccmerged.package file as I read that it's sometimes corrupted and responsible for store items not showing up. Anyway, to make a long story story, I was able to replace all my store content back but now some of my CC has disappeared. I have a doc appt shortly so I'm not able to figure out right now what's missing. I'll try this afternoon. My vision is still impaired but I should be able to figure it out.

I had a few bad moments when I had removed the installed worlds as per instructions, and my most recent games were gone. However, when I put the folder back the games came back. Whew!!

So it sounds like you've got it mostly figured out?

If you'd like you can let me know what CC you have installed and their link I can try to download them and run them through the Sims 3 multi installer so they're in .package format.

You can then put them in a folder called Packages in your Mods folder. It's less likely that custom content goes missing when in .package format. At least that's been my experience.

All the cc I have is from TSR and just goes into my downloads folder and it's all still there. I just have to go back and reinstall them. I don't have a lot in the game at the moment and just adding back a bit at a time if I want something special. Everything seems to be back to normal for the moment. Let's hope it stays that way.

Eye appt went well. Healing up "beautifully", she says. That seems to be her favorite word. :D

Ah okay, no problem. I thought you had meant it got lost - went missing from the downloads folder.

Mrs G. helped me find some camera mods here. Hopefully this will help stabilize the camera in your game.

I am happy to hear your eye appointment went well!! :)

Thank you and Mrs G for the camera links. I'll take a look at them in a day or so when I can see better. I've just been playing a little bit. My retired sports legend has moved to the ranch (still under construction) and adopted a horse. Wow. That's a lot of work. She's going to need to earn an income somehow but it took almost the whole day to bond with and look after the horse. Going to be a bit of a learning curve here. But for now I need to give my tired eyes a rest.
