I've set a new challenge for myself. I am trying to build my bookstore using no CC or mods except for a rabbit hole rug. This is going to be a tough challenge and it's hard not to succumb to the CC temptation. Already I can't use my favorite "library" wallpaper.

Uhhhmm.. That might be hard since there's not a whole lot of objects built into the game to create a book store with. If you have a look your trying to go after, that makes it even harder.
I'm curious to see what you come up with though.

Well, I was defeated even before I started. The first thing I did was slap this by the door without realizing what I'd done.

I was going to suggest turning off custom content via the Sims 3 launcher > Installed Content tab and click Ok on the warning message, but realized you are probably like me and have at least some custom content installed via Mods\Packages. Therefore that won't help turning off the tempting custom content.
Unless you turn it off via the Sims 3 launcher and remove say your Packages folder to help remove temptation. I've done this for some of my builds. Err... Taken out my Packages folder to reduce temptation of CC. lol

I thought about that but to make it function the way I want, I realize now that I'm going to need some mods and CC but I'll do as much of the build that I can without it. We'll see how it goes. No promises.

Yeah, that's another thing I was thinking about. That's why I was hesitating in posting the suggestion of turning off CC and removing your Packages folder.
How I see it, you're going after a certain look and function, so go with that.

I weakened. What can I say? You had to know it would happen.
This vs That
I love this low wall and if I were a modder, I'd fix it so people could sit on it. It's the perfect height to put around a fountain.

I see the difference and that cc fence does make a nice difference!! No judgement in using CC it's fine.

It was a challenge that I'd imposed on myself. I'm a CC-aholic. I knew yesterday that you were right, it wasn't going to be easy to do a bookstore without CC because there are no books in-game that I could find. I like to put tables around with books on display here and there. Not possible without CC.

The tale of a bookstore - or two.
The inspiration for the bookstore came from the one featured in the Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny. This is a loose interpretation using minimal CC.
The bookstore from the book was inspired by this store in a town in Quebec where the fictitious village of Three Pines is situated.
So I decided to go with it.
Both the store in the story and the real life store have a coffee corner with a wood stove.
Now I don't know which one to use!
