Game Limitations ~ House Build Challenge #1

Once again the game limitations have defeated me.

This is a picture of a house in Tennessee that I'm trying to build.



Here's my attempt.



I can't get any windows to fit in the upper gables. I tried placing a frieze but that didn't help. The roof is cc because I was hoping to get a heavier trim look but that didn't happen.

Anyone up for a challenge?

It looks like to me the gable part of the roof might be a little higher than the hipped roof part.

I'll see what I can come up with.

It's the angle of the picture If I recall, the gable was joined to the hip roof. But that was a long time ago so my memory might be limited.

I left off the gazebo.



I made the bay window area just a bit bigger. I had to pull the roof up pretty high to get windows in the upper roofline. That's why it looks odd. I'm not sure of any other way. There maybe some CC Windows that might work better for the upper roofline?

If I were to make this into more of a playable house I'd made the upper roofline where the windows are just a bit more wider so to hopefully not have to pull up so much on the roof. I don't like oddly pulled rooflines like that. And I'd want it to blend in just a bit more too.

With having a little trouble with the windows in the upper roofline, I left off the other piece. Can't remember what they're called.

I've seen houses that look like that. The gazebo is what makes the house interesting for me. I have two 20x30 lots in the area where the city hall used to be in Riverview. There is room there for a 3rd one but for some reason I can only go to 25 feet and I get the "can't build on lot" message so I needed to have a smaller house for there but one that fits the neighborhood. I'll try it again tomorrow. I didn't get much computer time today. And now that I look at it, I don't think I took that picture. It was in a file with others that I have taken.

Sometimes, it helps to 'flatten lot' if there seems to be illogical building restrictions.

I always start by flattening the lot. Where I came into trouble was trying to add windows to the upper roofline. The windows didn't want to be placed unless I pulled up the roofline as tall as it is. Making it look out of place, at least to me.

There's something about that house though.   I saved a copy of it and am building onto it. Determined to help the roofline look better. lol

I did flatten the lot but yes, I've run into that before. I think the problem is that it's not a full 2 storey and the windows are programmed to fit at exact levels. The gable on the right isn't high enough to reach that level. I'm pretty sure that the gable would tie into the hip roof and it only looks higher because of the perspective.

And later...
Boy, I'm like a dog with a bone. Once I get my teeth into something, I can't let go. I've just spent an hour looking at photos of Victorian bungalows to see if I could find an example of what I'm talking about. Anyway, if you change the perspective of the photo, you would see that the side of the gable is flush with the side of the hip.

I'm pretty sure it's a programming issue. I might end up making it a 2 storey but now I need breakfast.

I ended up making it into a two-story home with basement. I absolutely love how it turned out.

Nice! It looks very much like the house I recently sold.

I'm going to try and recreate it the way it is but I might have to dig into a bit more CC.

This is an exact mirror image of the house I just sold. You can see the resemblance between it and yours.
