I did that when I came back to the sims after several years. I was playing Sunset Valley and had 6 sims that I was playing, each with their own household. I'd play them in rotation and when I was done with one, I'd save as both the individual sim and SV. I'd just chance households so that it was all consistent. I eventually had 3 couples but they still had their own homes and all just hung out as a social group. I'm slowly moving them all over to RV and in fact, one couple is now married.
