Building a Functional Consignment Store?
« on: June 26, 2022, 11:55:16 AM »
I've read, and read and read until I'm going blind and I still can't find the answer I'm looking for. I know the requirement is Ambitions, which I have. I know there are consignment stores in-game which I've used.
I understand the store is stocked with items from family inventory.
I know that someone will come in and man the register.

What I want to know is, does someone actually have to own the store in order to stock it? Or is it stocked by random townies?

I've never actually run a consignment store. I think there maybe mods that help with actually running the shop over at Nraas and MtS.

As far as I understand it the register does most if not all the consignment stuff, meaning handles the stock. You can browse/buy/sell by clicking on the register and going through the options.

You don't have to own the shop for the register to do it's thing.

----

Here's what I've done to build a Consignment Shop: (Finding the Register)

1. Picked a lot and change it to a community lot with a type of Consignment Store. Go into lot.

2. In build mode, click on community objects (it's the building on the right of the build menu)

3. Search by Ambitions by using the filter content button on the right of the menu.

4. Click the Misc. Objects tab (2nd tab) to find the consignment register.

-- If you'd rather want the Elixir/Consignment Register, filter content by Supernatural and it should show up. Elixir Store Consignment Register. This is the one I usually like using due to it allowing to be open all hours day and night. :)

You can have both registers on the lot to make it a combo lot. The game gives both registers NPC to run the registers.

I've learned that I don't have to own the shop, so that's good. The register shows items for sale but none of it is related to flowers.
I'm wondering if I have to have sims consign items for them to show up in the shop. I tried with a sim that loaded up on plants, put them into her family inventory, but nothing showed up on the consignment list.
I'll see what happens in a sim day or 2. It's evening now.

I might just end up leaving along to do it's own thing. I think I've been misunderstanding how the store itself functions and I can't get my head wrapped around it. (not even after reading a 20 page thread. :D)

Consignment Shop Basics - Selling

This only works with the family you're actively playing, from what I understand.

I usually add what I want to sell to my Sim's personal inventory. Though I have seen the consign tab show stuff from your family's inventory.

Click on the Register and click Buy. The consignment menu will come up.  The Shop tab is what the shop has up for sale that day.

The Consign tab has what you have available to sell. Click on an item and enter the number you want to sell of that item. Click the Add to Consignment List button at the bottom left of the menu. Do this for each item you want to sell.

When finished, Click the Consign Items button at the bottom right of the menu. Click the Close button (upper right of menu) when finished with the menu.

It will pop up a message thanking you for giving them the items to sell and will let you know when they sell and how much you get for the items.

This is a combo Consignment/Elixir shop I made, with the lot type of Consignment Store.  It has both the Consignment Register and the Elixir Register.  Both are functional and sell different things and are open different hours of the day.

Consignment Register: 9am to 6pm.  Elixir Register is open 24/7.

I emailed MrsGoodWrench too see what she knows about the consignment shop and she gave me this info to pass on:

I believe the shop only takes certain items.  However the Consigner mod from NRaas allows one to add other items. Sims are able to sell things like fruit, fish, inventions, paintings, sculptures and nectar to the shop.

https://www.nraas.net/community/Consigner

Once Consigner is installed (clear script cache before launching the game) Launch game. Go to City Hall > Consigner > Set to Sell All = True.  Then all plants/items placed in the personal and family inventory are allowed to be consigned and sold.

Here's a Wiki page on Consignment Stores that explains about a possible bug or two and what to do.

Some stuff does go in the backpack and some in the family inventory like sculptures. I don't think plants can be sold there though flowers yes the ones sims give to each other and the ones that can be picked that came with seasons like the azaleas etc.

List of items that can be sold via the Consignment Register - about middle of page.

Thanks for the new links. I have seen them but wasn't sure if the consigner is what I'm looking for since this is what it says.
"This mod replaces the "Buy" interaction on the Consignment Register with one that allows the sale of potions, gems, rocks, metals, insects, relics, and sketches.."

But it won't hurt to install it and just see what happens.

Wowzer!!  With the Consigner Mod installed and activated you can sell everything and the kitchen sink -
