House Build Challenge #6 ~ Garden House
« on: July 16, 2022, 10:43:40 AM »
I want to build a "small" house on a small lot to be transferred to a 30x30 lot so it has room for a greenhouse and possibly an outdoor produce garden area.

House needs to be on a 20x20 lot. 2bds/1Ba, with basement, staircase to bsmt, and possible attic space that is usable.

Bedrooms need to be at least 6x5, 3x3 or 3x4 for the bathroom - whichever fits better.  The kitchen and livingroom can be open to each other, like in the inspiration photo below.

I built this house and love it. It could be transferred to a 30x30, and edited to add basement, staircase and possible attic space. I'd rather build new, where I can plan out where to put the stairs for the basement and whatnot.

Whatever you build doesn't need to look exactly like the above photo.

I'll be sharing progress photos of the build and whatnot. And will share the finished house.

~ Everyone is invited to join!! :)

Here's what I have for a floorplan.  The orange flooring is where the stairs will go to the basement

It will be 1 story home with basement.

I wanted to add, I'm not sure if Sims 3 has 20x20 lot by default. You may need Velocitygrass - Add Any Lot Size Mod to get that size.

The link above gives you a howto and a note from me. :)

I use that mod all the time.
I have a floor plan but I'm modifying a bit still.

I've been creating a journal of sorts for my build. Kept notes as I was doing things, so forgive the babblings. :)

Built on a 20x20 custom sized lot, in Sunset Valley.

1 Story home - 2Bds/1Ba with basement and possible usable attic space.

Deep Jade Tile Roof (Base Game Roof Pattern) Hipped Roof, Tall Gable

I am hoping to give this house a somewhat "fancy" roof, since the inside is somewhat "plain". Plus it should give some pretty good attic space.

Before I forget again, photo of the open basement. Used the basement tool to create this. As I don't think a dig-out basement would have worked for a house without a foundation.

That's a test for another day. lol

When I was planning out the floorplan, I wanted to leave some space in the front, so that way the house wasn't right up against the street when I add it to a 30x30 lot.

I've learned to leave a 2 square space on each of the other sides of the house, so that way windows can be placed without trying to glitch out.  I've have to rebuild two houses already due to that oopsie. *Blush*

  ----

Here's a progress photo of my attic getting drawn out. lol

How I've learned to make a usable attic is by trial and error.  If you see any walls poking out, that's not good. If you see the squares on top of the roofline, that's okay.

And attic finished!! Room for at least a bathroom and a tiny bedroom or a full artist's studio w/bath. I'll figure that out later.

  ----

I'm still playing around with the idea of where to put the ladder to the attic space. I moved some walls and added by the back left bedroom.

Busy lady. Very thorough. As usual, I completely forgot to take progress shots.  ::)

As to the digging the basement without a foundation, it's possible.

Example 1 - Dig without walls or foundation.
Example 2 - Add walls, floor and stairs.
Example 3 - Dig with existing walls but must not have flooring.

I hope I've explained it clearly. :D

And that's as far as I got. I am kind of feeling stuck trying to pick external wall coverings.

That was my problem. I spent a lot of time on that.

I found an external wall covering I'm happy with!!

Was trying to stay away from Light Green/Brown trim, but couldn't help myself.  Still need to place doors and windows, plus indoor wall coverings. lol
