I enlarged the dormers. It wasn't as big a deal as I thought it would be.

Since it's October, I felt like doing Holloweeny things. There was a build challenge posted with a potentially creepy house, and I remembered my vampire Terrence Bloodston whom I have had in a few games, the last one being Emerald Valley, where he outlived a wife and took a mistress whom he turned. I'm going to assume over the years, they grew apart and he has moved on to this house in Barnacle Bay (same save as the one with Sandi (French) Butler, but I turned off aging so I could play the Bloodston household for awhile. I'm going to put together a blog post, but thought I'd put a few pictures here. The first one is the challenge house exterior. There were floorplans too, but those quickly went out the window as I was building. I was going for something somewhat moody and whimsical but not gloomy or too dark. Terrence isn't an evil vampire but a rather endearing and and quirky one. His lifetime wish is to be a master of seduction. (I went back and tiled the ceilings after some of these pictures were taken, so they aren't white anymore.

Thanks! The upper level deck was the result of my struggles with roofing the porch and finally giving up. This was as close as I could get with it, and it didn't meet the roof correctly. When I extended it one more tile, the slope was too steep and the roof looked slapped-together. So I put the flat roof and half wall.

Here are this week's episodes - one is the October/Halloween one, and the other is Cape Albacore - only 4 lots at the moment, but I couldn't help playing in it.

I like the upper deck much better, but you could try testing a hipped or half-hipped roof instead, if you don't want the upper deck?

Thanks for the idea, Mrs. Flynn. I'll probably keep the upper deck in the end, but I think I will also try it with the half-hipped roof as I encounter this problem frequently when I'm building.

You're welcome!! Yep, definitely keep the upper deck!! I have a habit of using the hipped or half-hipped roof often in my builds. Helps the roofing flow better is the best I can describe.

Roofs are my nemesis. MrsFlynn is right. Using a hip roof can solve that problem of that funny gable end. I managed to get it to tie in once after a lot of fidding around but the house wasn't right and I started it over but I could never managed to do that again.
Many of my houses have a wrap-around porch so after making the porch base and adding posts, I place a hip roof over the entire first level.
Daisy is sort of an example of what I'm talking about.
