LaPaige, may I ask what you did with your Riverview? It looks nothing like mine, and I'm awfully curious

Well now, Nindigo, what *didn't* I do?

There are some Store items and a few CC pieces.

I removed many of the lots both residential and community and in some cases just the houses and left the lots.
I removed the criminal warehouse, the military base, the water research facility and the stadium.
I removed the fish hatchery and stuff I can't even remember now.
In another section I removed the firehall, the gym and the pool and the school.






I replaced the school and stadium with a combination of the two and moved it over to the other side if the hill along with the gym and the swim club.




I removed city hall and replaced it with a combination city hall/firehall/police station and put it where the stadium was.

Part 2

My goal is to revamp the waterfront area into a shopping, restaurant and entertainment venues.

This is Crusty's Crab Shack which is a representation of a place I like to go when I'm in Fort Lauderdale. It's an open air seafood restaurant.
Across the street is the "Al Fresco Street Market" (store item).




I want to build what at one time would have been "posh" homes on some of the lots on the island and turn some of them into business much like some urban areas are doing in real life. I removed the Sunflower Spa because it didn't go with the neighborhood. I put Barney's Salon/Tattoo where the original city hall was but I don't like it so I'm going to build a new one and combine it with the spa. I also want to put a pharmacy/apothecary in that same area.

These are two of my builds from Sunset Valley.
The one on the left has been converted to a tea room with an apartment above.





I removed the mansion that was on the top of the hill and built an new one modeled after a mansion in Charleston, South Carolina that I saw and photographed several years ago.





This is the bungalow of my one active sim (for testing purposes only)
She has just quit her astronaut career to become a stylist.







I'm looking for a place where I can put Brunch at the Old Mill.

Just...wow. Thank you for sharing all that! Riverview is like your playground. Impressive! I hadn't realized you were that much of a builder.

I wish that I could feel inspired to build as well, but when I'm looking at all those squares on a lot in build-buy mode, I go blank. And if I have a floor plan and pictures, I just don't know where to start. What if I get it wrong - I can't move the entire building the same way you can in Sims 4. Not that I built much in that game either, but there is less punishment if you miscalculate a placement.

The most fun I did was when I re-did some houses from Sims 2 in Sims 3, because the squares guided me and equal the same distance in both games.

I just wanted everyone to know that there is a scheduled service outage from our webhosting service tomorrow (Friday) evening from 9pm pacific time to 12-midnight pacific time. It's to upgrade their network to be able to offer better services.

We had an outage tonight and was caught off guard by it. I was able to check on the webhost's site and find information about the outage and learned there will be one tomorrow as well.

Nindigo, I think I enjoy the building aspect as much as actually playing. I am a designer/builder by nature and I've designed and built 3 of the houses I've lived in and one for a friend. My recent remodel is the second one I've done. The game satisfies that creative need and it's a whole lot less expensive. But I do find the limitations frustrating. Just ask MrsFlynn. I take my frustrations out on her and she's very good about walking me off the ledge.
I keep trying to make the game do what it wasn't designed to do and also why I have a boatload of CC.

If I were 50 years younger, I'd design a whole new game.

The game may be limited in what it can do but the way Lapaige finds ways around some of the softer limitations is amazing!!

Wow

Speaking of building. I forgot to save after creating two bathrooms and then the game froze on me. Had to hard quit. *pouty face*

I'm trying to build a very large house/mansion for my Alvis where I fit all of their WA treasures and whatnots, wanting to dedicate a larger section to each country. I don't want to just stuff all the pretties in chests :-/

It's such an ordeal because I suck at building *blush*

How do I place stairs through a foundation? I'd like a basement for all the nectar related stuff.

If it's already a placed foundation, it's tricky to place stairs down to the basement. You have to use a building cheat ConstrainFloorElevation
 
I still haven't gotten the hang of that cheat. There may be another building cheat used. It's been a little while since I watched the video linked below.

I do have a How-to on creating stairs to basement, but it more geared to already having a floorplan in mind with no foundation placed. I just haven't put it all together. *Blush*
