Whew!!! I downloaded a bunch of CC yesterday and I just tried to load my game and it wouldn't load. I'd get to the launch screen and it would either go black or disappear altogether. I tried a couple of things that didn't work so I just went in and pulled out all the CC from yesterday and it's working again. So now comes the process of putting bits back one piece at a time to see which one it was. That's never happened before and I'm pretty sure I had some of the same stuff.
But I'm back in business.

Sounds like you've been able to sort things out and get the game back in working order?

Any time I go on a CC shopping spree I add it to a new Sims 3 folder little by little to see what works and what doesn't. Get rid of what doesn't work. Then add the CC that does work into my main Sims 3 folder.

I had a major scare a few years back where I got some bad CC that I wasn't able to easily remove. I ended up having to delete the files in the DCCache folder and reinstall favorite store sets and towns, plus the CC I had.

So now I am really careful of what CC I install so that doesn't happen again.

Yes, that was definitely a learning experience. Won't be doing that again.

Usually, I don't like to stray from the vanilla style. But some CC hairs manage to look Maxis Match-ish enough for me to "approve" of and even appreciate. Like one I've been using for Aggie. Dug up an old save from before I blew her and house to smithereens and played it some today.

I tried. I like my houses to look realistic and with the in-game objects, that's not really possible. If I played differently, then I might think differently. Paintings especially are problematic for me. I only use a handful of them which means repeats. I find so much of the in-game stuff to be dark and gloomy. I real life I need lots of light and so by default, I think my sims do too. I end up recoloring everything. I'm just glad the options are out there if we choose to use them. Mind you, if they weren't then I wouldn't know any differently.

Nindigo, It's been awhile since I've seen Aggie in the cc hair you have for her, so I went to refresh my memory.  I like the hair style!!

It all comes down to individual taste. There is no right or wrong, thank goodness. In my case, it just has to do with style consistency. As for colors and home design, I usually prefer calm earthy tones and simplicity. My eyes are very quick to tell me if something is too bright, contrasted or saturated

Lighting in Sims 3 can be a little difficult, but I have learned how to remove the blinding bloom effect by adding a line in GraphicsRules.sgr under 'option AdvancedRendering', under the '/    setting $On' part which is:
      prop $ConfigGroup RenderPostProcessEnabled false


In case you were unaware and want to get rid of it like me.

Thank you for the confirmation that disabling Bloom Effect works. I saw an article someone wrote in 2014 on it and was curious about it.

Absolutely! It's what makes the world go around. It would be too boring if we were all the same.
