I hope he had a comfy sleepover.
It happened to me in Winnipeg, March 4, 1966. I was 19 and working in the accounts office at a major department store. Winnipegers are no strangers to heavy snow and everyone went to work in the morning even thought the snow was falling heavily. By noon we were hearing rumors that they were going to be shutting down the buses and instead of letting us go (which would have meant we'd be stranded somewhere on the road, they kept all the employees there. It was actually a fun adventure because all the women were given the furniture department to sleep in. They gave us packages with toothbrushes and tooth paste and hair brushes. I was with 2 other gals got to sleep on the newly designed round bed. We were also fed well because there were several restaurants in the building.
In Vancouver where we do not get that kind of snow, my son got caught in a similar situation. Couldn't get home after a heavy snow. He also worked in a department store of a different sort - gear to automotive, sporting goods, housewares and hardware, etc. He and a couple of others ended up breaking out some of the camping equipment and making themselves cozy. There just happened to be a pizza place right next door.
