Those choices also depend on how the empty lot is situated in relation to the street. From what I can gather, the "arrows" on the grid is probably meant to be the front so if it happens that what you consider to be the front of your lot, the game might not think so and you may have to try all directions to get the house where you want it.

I think that might be true = arrows going towards the street means the front of the lot, and if the house/build gets placed differently, you'll need to use the arrows to rotate it to the front of the lot.

The guidelines for a shell challenge state that as long as the main floor footprint isn't changed except for allowing for decks/porches or garages and fireplaces, changes to the upper stories are allowed.
With this in mind, I maintained the outer shell of the main floor but slightly altered the second storey to accommodate a bath and 2 bedrooms.
On the main floor I created an entry foyer, a powder room and an office where the second bedroom was situated. I also added a staircase up to the second floor.

You did a wonderful job!!  I like the layout of the main floor.

I'm still trying to decide between big front deck/porch or small front porch.

Once I get that figured out, I can add the flooring and wall coverings and be good to go.

Make them both the same size. Then you don't have to decide between them.

Yes. I was working on that.

Got screenshots of both to compare the two to hopefully help figure out which I like better.

Small deck

- Front close to road.

Bigger deck

- Front a little farther away from road.

Made a somewhat wrap-around deck if I find that I want to add another sliding glass door to the right side of the house. With seeing the screenshots "side by side" I'm still liking the bigger deck, but maybe not have it so big. Thinking a bit smaller on the right side of the house.

That's a party deck. Definitely needs to be further back from the road. Since it's so big you could screen in a portion of it.

Ooooh Great idea!! Wanted to do something like that more with the back. However, I want to see what a covered deck would look like in front.

I'm still not quite done yet with the building phase. Still trying to decide on  some inside wall coverings.

Doing something with the deck like I did = Awesome idea!! Gives the house a special touch!!
