No stuff packs or expansions required to have a functioning sewing machine. Though with having different packs enabled/installed there is a better pattern selection than just the 12 base game rugs. lol

Pattern List for Base Game:  (12 Rug Patterns)

- Rocket Rug from Randy Homson
- Chandelier Rug
- Purrfect Rug
- Modern Oval Rug
- Dated Faded Floral Rug
- Poor Man's Half-Round Rug
- Welcome Matt
- Flying Carpet
- The Saxony
- Aristocratic First Oval Rug
- Marathon Carpet Runner
- L7 Rug

All the above patterns can be either purchased via computer, discovered via practice Sewing or reading Sewing Skill books.

We got a couple responses back from Lyralei about the sewing machine

About the packs that are required and Teens can use the machine.

 – About the packs that are required.

I'm not really seeing where you're reading that, but that's fine! I know I did mention it on a different thread somewhere

So the patterns have a collection of objects I tell the script to collect. If it can't find a particular key, it will just skip it. So while I technically made it so patterns can be made with particular packs, it won't share those in the dialogue

If you have 1.69 installed, then you'll notice that too. If you turn off certain packs and turn on the game again, you'll notice that it's not loading the patterns from that turned off pack anymore basically. So you can even play with this mod if you only have the basegame!

 – Teens can use the machine.

Heya! I think I mentioned that it was teen and up. now teens do show some clipping, rather than stretching when using the sewing table. (I haven't actually found out a way how EA makes teens be able to use items with the same adult animations and working flawlessly tbh. I don't think anyone has for that matter)

But I'll clarify this in the description!

My stylist (former astronaut) sim has the sewing machine but so far the only option is to practice sewing. When/how do I get to do an actual project?

You need a pattern in your Sims personal inventory. They can either be found by practice sewing or purchased via the computer.

I don't have the machine installed at the moment, but was thinking of installing it again.

Ok. I'm out of her save at the moment, but I think now I recall that I can join a pattern club. Or am I imagining that?

Re: Lyralei's CC Sewing Machine ~ Help Thread ~ Notes on the Mod
« Reply #38 on: October 18, 2021, 10:18:20 PM »
I wanted to share some notes I took awhile back when I was doing some testing with the sewing machine. At the time, I only had base game installed. So I only noted what patterns are available with base game installed.

  ----

Skill and Other Information:

Even before level #1, you can sign up for the Pattern Club.    -- You can only signup via computer at this time.
You may need to purchase the sewing machine and practice sewing for a couple of in-game minutes before the option becomes available.

If reading the sewing skill books to skill up, you only need to read a little bit of the 1st book before you get the option to signup to the pattern club.

Depending on what packs you have installed, you may need to select the More option on the computer to find the Join Pattern Club and Buy Patterns options.

If these options aren't showing up on your computer, you may need to reset the object, lot or replace laptop. The options not showing could happen if your family has a computer on the lot before getting the sewing machine.

Pattern(s) by Mail should arrive a little after 8am on Thurs. mornings.

Before Level #1 - Buy Any Pattern, even clothing patterns!! (Any and All patterns become unlocked to purchase for §200. each.)

Level #3 - Blog and Browse for Patterns/Sewing.

Level #6 - Sew Clothes.

 – All finished sewables (clothes, rugs etc.) can be recolored via Create a Style.

 – Finished clothing items show up via the dresser > Plan Outfit

 – To sew anything, the specific pattern needs to be in your Sim's inventory. It cannot be in the bookshelf/chest or family inventory.

 – Takes about 5 to 6 hours (give or take) to sew a garment.

  ----

Discovering Patterns: (Any Sim in the household can learn all patterns by)

 – Practice Sewing on the Sewng Machine.
 – Reading the Sewing Skill Books, available at the bookstore.
 – Browsing for Patterns on the Computer.
 – Through the Pattern Club via Mail.

✽ Reading Sewing Skill books helps skill up faster than the machine. However, less patterns may be discovered this way.

  ----

Pattern Storage:
Patterns can be stored in a bookshelf or chest. Possibly other places as well. -- When you need to use one it needs to be placed back into your Sims' personal inventory.

Deleting Duplicates:
Yes, you can delete duplicates. It won't harm anything. If you find that you delete a pattern by mistake it can be purchased again via the computer, and possibly the phone. Or just keep practicing to discover it again.

Using Patterns:
Any Sims in the household can use the patterns as long as they have the desired one in their personal inventory.

  ----

Sewing Books:

Sewing for Beginners:
"Trrrr Noises and What to do When Running Out of Fabric." = §50.

Sewing for the Not-Too-Pros:
"Help! My Sewing Machine Ate My Fabric!" = §500.

Sewing For the Actual Pros:
"How to Train Your Patterns to Sew for Themselves... For Real. = §750.

  ----

Sewing Machine:

Buy mode > Sort By Function > Entertainment > Lyralei's Sewing Table = §1,250

  ----

Pattern List for Base Game:  (12 Rug Patterns)

- Rocket Rug from Randy Homson
- Chandelier Rug
- Purrfect Rug
- Modern Oval Rug
- Dated Faded Floral Rug
- Poor Man's Half-Round Rug
- Welcome Matt
- Flying Carpet
- The Saxony
- Aristocratic First Oval Rug
- Marathon Carpet Runner

Thank you, MrsFlynn. This makes sewing a little more digestable to me. I really like overviews!
