You might be able to add stairs to basement or another floor even if there's a wall on one side or the other

If you're good with building cheats, here's a how-to from Karritz placing stairs inside a foundation.

Tutorial - Place Stairs Inside a Foundation

I've tried the Constrain floor cheat a couple times recently and still am not good at using it to place basement stairs.

LaPaige's Porch ~ The Purcell - Landing - Progress Screenies

~ The Purcell - Landing

I think I didn't explain myself very well. The stairway in the actual house  has 2 steps and a landing where it turns. Then more steps to another landing where it turns again before going to the second floor.

This is the set I use.
https://www.thesimsresource.com/downloads/details/category/sims3-sets-objects-construction/title/cottage-half-landing-stairs/id/1115099/

The original. You can see on the left that the second landing would be against the outside wall and there are windows there.

Landing windows.

But because I wanted the stairs to start in a specific spot, I couldn't place them against the wall. If I turn them so that the landing is against the outside wall, that would be more like the picture except that it would set the stairs too far back to have them start in the hall near the entry and they wouldn't go back to the wall anyway.

So I made an office behind them.

Up to attic. (haven't placed any rooms on the 2nd floor yet but I just placed the stairs in case I wanted to use the attic space. That set of stairs is not re-colored.

Sim stairs. Using the cheat, the stairs can't be placed against the wall where the windows are.

I hope this explains better what I meant. :)

Ah okay.

You might be able to add photos with moveobjects on, but don't forget to turn it off when done or it could cause problems later on.

Thank you for sharing what stairs you use. :)

The attic space may not be able to be used, at least by an active Sim family without them getting an unfinished room moodlet. If the walls aren't full sized walls in the attic area.

Not quite sure what you mean about adding photos. When I add walls to the attic, I just put them where they'll fit within the gables.

Sorry about that. You might be able to add windows with moveobjects on, but don't forget to turn it off when done or it could cause problems later on.

Looking back at the house photos, it looks like there's a good amount of space for an attic. :)

It's not about the windows because since the stairs don't back up to that wall where the landing should be, there's no point in even putting windows there where it's a half level. I've put an office there so the windows are there for that.

This is going to be a pretty big house depending on how many bedrooms I put in upstairs, so I may make a recreational space in the attic - tv, foosball, etc.

I can't sit here any longer!! I have to make my bed and get dressed. It's pouring rain and I don't even want to go out but I don't have a choice. :::grumble::: :D

You could always finish the attic, but not furnish it. Then if you find you play a family in it and it's needed, then add the tv, foosball table and things like that.

I do something similar when I make basements in the houses I build.

~ Purcell - Kitchen and Sunroom

Please compare to the real house photos a few posts up. :D
I had to put shelves between the dining room post and the kitchen window instead of an upper cabinet because it wouldn't fit even with MOO.

I made the sunroom a bit bigger than the original. Because I could. :D

Thank you. I love it. It took a lot of searching for CC and re-coloring to get it as close as possible to the original but I always have so much fun with these and happy when they turn out as I'd hoped.

I found the original real estate listing for the house and found out it has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths upstairs so that helps with design. The attic is useless so I removed the stairs. I tried putting a basement under the house but I had a problem placing the stairs. The listing says it's got a media room, a workout room, etc in the basement. I might make a garage with a second storey like I did in the New Orleans house.

That house was listed about a year and a half ago and sold for $1.250.000. Here it would go for at least 3 mil.
