Lapaige's Shell Challenge #2
« on: December 18, 2022, 06:10:31 PM »
Lapaige has shared a new challenge to build a house from the shell pictured below.  I love sharing these challenges because I enjoy seeing how our builds turn out.  We have different building styles so whatever we're working on comes out unique. :)

Original dimensions of the shell.

Example of what it looks like rotated.

  ----

   ~ Rules and Information:

 –  Keep the outer walls the same dimensions as what's originally posted in the screenshot.
 –  Can add a garage, foundation, porch, basement or more floors desired.
 –  Use Any sized lot you want.
 –  Indoor walls can be done however you like.
 –  Additional floors and basement(s) can be whatever size.
 –  Custom Content can be used in build.
 –  Does not need to be furnished.

 –  Submit progress screenshots and details of the build as you build via a new post in the thread.   How to Add Images to a Post ~ Using Imgbb Image Mod
 –  Save a copy of the original dimensions screenshot to your desktop and rotate/flip in Paint it to get different ideas for the build.
 –  Can Upload the build to either Houses or Community Lots when finished, if you'd like to share.  How To: Upload a House or Lot to the Media Room Board.
 –  Can use Builder's Island to create your build. See this post for more details.
 –  Those who host these challenges can participate, as long as they rotate/flip the shell/lot.

Nice Start!!

I'll edit in my starting build when I start and get 1st draft. lol :)

ETA:

Here's the plan I followed: (rotated and flipped)

Here's how my 1st draft turned out:

Built on a 30x30 lot.

House seems to be: 22 squares wide - side to side of lot and 20 squares front to back of lot.

The biggest challenge so far is getting a roof I like. I've spent most of the afternoon playing around with it.

I'm still in the thinking stage. Not sure if I like what I've done... which is still that 1st draft. lol I'm actually thinking about the roof as well, even though I'm far from trying to make a roof on the place.

I've got window/doors in now but I haven't decided what to do with the exterior. But it's time to quit for now. Dinner time and then cribbage.

I'm so cold! I've had my fireplace on all day and finally had to give in and turn the heat up. So far the fireplace has been sufficient but not today, or for the rest of the week. I have to go out to pick up a grocery order tomorrow (ordered online), and I'm dreading it.

I love that we can order groceries online and get curb-side pickup.

I'm going to be jumping back in-game to see what I can do with my build.

Have a fun game night!! :)

ETA:

Progress screenshots!!

I rotated the original lot that I made, because I wasn't quite happy with it and came up with this.

I was able to find the right flip and rotation I used:

I had to study the layout in my game vs the dimensions screenshot. Then was able to flip and rotate it properly so my layout looks like the layout of the dimensions screenshot.

It gives me better vibes. lol  Though I'm still trying to iron out the details of the main floor.  Right now I'm feeling it's a possible 1-1/2 story home with basement.

Guess I won't be going for groceries today. My son says the roads are terrible and to stay home.

I'm guessing you got some of this too, Mrsflynn.

Not as much, but yep we got some.  It's somewhat melting, but it may freeze tonight and be a real mess in the morning. Then it's suppose to warm up a bit towards the weekend.

ETA:

Here's my progress screenshots:

I wanted to get these progress shots before I started trying windows/doors and such.  I'm liking how this is turning out so far. :)

Here's some more progress shots.

It's an open livingroom/kitchen/diningroom area with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in the back. Space for 2 more small bedrooms and a bath upstairs. Open basement for skilling/family or just to have more space for big families.

Looking at the photos, it looks like a country farm house. lol  :)
