No, the pool was added by me after leveling the terrain. It was just a hole in the ground otherwise.

I re-arranged the reception+dining area as well. After tearing down two bungalows, I placed a "resort tower" which I have improved to the max level, so it now offers spa and tattoo features. Occupancy capacity is now 50. It's entertaining to see how townsfolk check in, spend the days and nights. I have a top notch maintenance worker, but she doesn't do repairs. I have Miraj do those manually. I'm using skill and money cheats, because I just want to explore the resort feature and gameplay.

The customer reviews let one know what facilities people feel should be added to the resort. If you serve meals from the buffet table according to what time of day it is, occupants will happily stuff themselves. They may complain if a certain meal isn't available - dinner or lunch, for example. So there are things for one's resort owner to do.

Errm, I meant that there was a spot for one. lol

I grabbed the lot and played with it in build mode a bit, in a temporary save. Trying to get a feel for how this lot will work out if that makes sense. Thank you for the tip about fixing the pool by leveling the terrain. I kept looking at your photo and asking how did she do that.

I am very happy that it's working out for you. Giving me better hope that I'll be able to do this or work together to figure it out. Hahaha

Question: Did you buy the resort and do some renovations in Live mode, or do some renos before buying it, in Edit Town mode?

I'm kind of stuck in how to jump into this.

I did the pool and reception area before buying the lot, but I consider the resort a WIP. Since customer reviews are daily, I doubt that it matters when you upgrade/edit the lot. I figure it is meant to account for improvements along the way. The only concern is if you need the place to pay out off the bat and haven't given your Sim a million Simoleons.. like I've done :p

The resort opens when you have purchased it if it has a check-in counter - you can choose to close it immediately by clicking on the lot from a distance or clicking on the check-in counter, and then work on it before opening it again. Simple.

Update: I was wrong - maintenance personnel do do repairs.

Here are some newer screenshots of my Salty Springs Resort:

Currently, the revenue is 1800 and expenses are around 800. Simoleons, that is.

Here is what I have (items from Island Paradise in bold):

- the main building with the front desk, grand buffet table (20 Simoleons) plus dining area
- the five premade "bungalows" all feature a TV by default. I think they count as recreational objects
- there is also a pool and a small gym above the entrance
- beach resort tower upgraded to maxim level - 50/50 occupancy - and features a full spa experience - 600 Simoleons
- roomservice and spa services are on - 100 Simoleons combined
- Five premade "bungalows" that came with the lot where guests spend the night and watch TV
- a 24/7 front desk worker - 100 Simoleons
- a high quality maintenance worker - 100 Simoleons

Well...I have come to expect total randomness in The Sims games. For example, attached to the current highest rating of my resort is the poorest review. Why expect things to make sense?

On an unrelated note, guests use both bungalows and the resort tower when they turn in for the night. Interesting...

So, a resort is a resort, right? I was thinking beach since you placed it on Island Paradise then moved it to Lucky Palms which I take to mean there's no reason why I can't put one in Riverview. Correct?

Questions:
Did you build the resort from scratch or did it come with an expansion pack?
Could I create my own resort or should I download one?
Is there a "Resort" designation in Edit Town?

I might be able to help with some of the questions.

Since you don't have Island Paradise, the lot type and the objects you'd be needing for this aren't available. However you can still create the rooms/areas needed to make a resort type lot.

Nindigo and I  both are using a lot called Salty Springs Resort. It's a 40x40 residential lot that comes from Lucky Palms. We changed into a community > resort lot type.  I will be attaching the lot along with some photos of the lot to this post below.

We did not build from scratch, though we are adding objects from Island Paradise to help make it into a resort.

You can take the lot and place it in Riverview if you'd like. I'm playing in Sunset Valley and have added it to the end of Pinochle Point.

House Photos:  I didn't get a overview shot of roof up or front of house shot.

Installation:

The lot is in .package format, and need to be placed in the Sims 3 Library folder.
\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Library

The lot can be found in the Show Empty Houses tab in the in-game library.

Ok. I'll look into it in a bit. I just got a call from a client and I have to book some air for him. Not what I want to do right now. :D

Thanks for explaining, MrsFlynn. Just to confirm what you wrote...

The specific lot type 'Resort' came with the Island Paradise expansion pack. Two objects from that expansion pack are needed to open a resort lot; the Resort Tower and the Island Bell Hoppers' Front Desk.

No, I did not transfer the Island Paradise beach resort lot to Lucky Palms. There is a premade residential lot in Lucky Palms that was made to look like a resort, but is not. That lot is named Salty Springs Resort. This is what MrsFlynn and I have been converting to an actual resort lot. That is, we have changed the lot type to 'Resort' and added in the two required objects mentioned above. Or at least tried to, in a meaningful way. I made room for the Resort Tower by removing two bungalows, and then put the Island Bell Hoppers' Front Desk in the main (largest) room/building, so that guests can check in.

Hope this clarifies any remaining confusion should it be present.

And also, it is the running of a resort specifically that I'm wanting to explore - not the building of one.
